Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD)
The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) was established as a non-profit organisation on 1 August 2021 with a mission to support the decarbonisation of the maritime industry by shaping standards, deploying solutions, financing projects, and fostering collaboration across sectors.
Founded by six industry partners namely BHP, BW Group, Eastern Pacific Shipping, Foundation Det Norske Veritas, Ocean Network Express and Seatrium (formerly Sembcorp Marine), GCMD also receives funding from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for qualifying research and development programmes and projects. To-date, over 100 centre- and project-level partners have joined GCMD – contributing funds, expertise, and in-kind support to accelerate the deployment of scalable low-carbon technologies and lowering adoption barriers.
GCMD is strategically located in Singapore, the world’s largest bunkering hub and second largest container port.
Responsibilities
The Senior/Manager will support the Director of Partnerships in developing and executing partnership strategies to advance the mission of GCMD, foster collaboration, and enhance GCMD’s position within the industry. He/She will play a crucial role in identifying and cultivating strategic alliances with key stakeholders, including industry players, government agencies, and technology partners. The position also supports the Projects and Communication teams.
Partnership strategy development:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of industry trends, key players, and emerging technologies
- Support the development and execution of strategic partnership roadmaps aligned with organisational goals
- Identify and evaluate potential partnership opportunities to support the decarbonisation mission of GCMD
Relationship management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential partners across the ecosystem, including shipowners, shipbuilders, charterers, technology providers, financial institutions, and government agencies
- Work closely with internal teams to align partnership activities with overall mission objectives
- Coordinate and maintain partnership database
Contracting:
- Draft, review, and finalise partnership contracts and agreements in consultation with the Corporate Services team
- Prepare information and papers to seek board approval for new partnerships
Market analysis and research:
- Conduct market research to identify potential areas for collaboration and partnership
- Stay informed about industry developments, competitive landscapes, and regulatory changes that may impact partnerships
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Maritime, Business, Marketing, or related field
- Proven experience in developing and managing partnerships in the maritime sector would be advantageous
- Knowledge of the maritime industry, including key players, trends, and regulatory landscape would be important.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills especially with senior management levels
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically
- Strong writing and presentation skills to position strategic recommendations for board approval
- Track record of successfully driving business growth through strategic partnerships
- Passionate about sustainability and maritime decarbonisation
- Team player, highly motivated, ability to work independently and confidently under pressure
- Travel is required
