The Centre for the Study of Social Inequality (CSSI) is a research centre housed within the School of Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University. As the first research centre in Singapore devoted to the study of inequality, CSSI aims to:

• Promote multidisciplinary understanding of inequality—its forms, mechanisms of reproduction, effects on various groups in the community, and potential solutions;
• Nurture the pursuit of public social science—shaped by concerns of a broader public outside of academia, oriented to both critical analyses and creative solutions-thinking, with knowledge made accessible to members of the public.

The Centre Manager / Research Associate will support the Director (Associate Professor Teo You Yenn) and Deputy Director (Assistant Professor Shannon Ang) in all areas of CSSI’s work, which includes both research and administrative duties. Roles and responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities:

• Engage in and facilitate the conduct of academic activities (e.g., organize workshops and conferences, prepare manuscripts/reports)
• Ensure smooth running of the Centre and its activities (e.g., maintain website and social media accounts, craft communications materials)
• Communicate with local and international collaborators
• Perform other general research and administrative duties where required (e.g., IRB protocol, data requests)

Job Requirements:

• A Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the social sciences
• Some experience with administrative duties such as procurement, running events, etc.
• Some experience with maintaining social media accounts for institutional entities
• Good verbal and written communication

Job Responsibilities:

Survey Preparation

• Prepare the layout and proofreading of surveys in hardcopy and electronic formats.
• Email electronic copies (excel or PDF format) of the survey to respondents.
• Test survey validations and rules in the electronic survey platform.

Survey Fieldwork

• Answer phone and email queries from respondents to ensure the accuracy of the survey.
• Conduct follow up call chasers and reminders.
• Data entry of selected survey returns into the survey system.
• Maintain a call log to keep track of contact rate.
• Conduct random checks of data entered survey forms to ensure data accuracy.
• Assist officers in data clarifications.
• Perform desktop research on the internet for supplementary information

Looking for:

• Singaporeans only
• Have at least one (1) year of experience in market research, customer service, sales or survey interviewing
• Data entry experience
• Tech savvy with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
• Proficient in English (spoken & written) and have the confidence to conduct surveys in English over telephone interviews.

NIE invites suitable applications for the position of Manager, Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) under the Office of Education Research (OER). The selected candidate will assume administrative leadership at the Centre and support the Centre’s initiatives. This is a 3-year contract position, and may be renewed depending on the Institute’s needs and the individual’s performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the administrative team in supporting CRCD Principal Investigators (PIs) in various project-related matters such as human resource, finance, and grant management processes.
• Ensure good governance and compliance across research administration processes.
• Support the CRCD management in executing the Centre’s strategic initiatives and meetings.
• Write reports/papers and prepare presentation slides for the Centre’s strategic reporting to internal and external stakeholders as well as host visitors to CRCD/NIE.
• Act as a liaison between the Centre and internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide administrative leadership in organising research symposiums, workshops, and other academic events.
• Represent the Centre in administrative task forces and committees.
• Other duties as assigned by the Reporting Officer.

Requirements

• A university degree.
• Proven experience in administrative roles for at least 10 years, preferably in an academic or research setting.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software.
