[What the role is]
The job of an academic is challenging and meaningful. Not only will he/she have both the knowledge and working experience, he/she must also possess a passion for working with youths, nurturing them and moulding their characters. There will be opportunities to develop the curriculum, introduce new courses as well as be involved in consultancy and other applied research projects. Administrative work related to teaching and School/Institutional strategic initiatives will be an important part of the job too. Successful candidates will be expected to be resourceful and innovative with initiative and good communication skills.
The appointee must be able to teach and facilitate students’ learning in:
- Community Arts
- Participatory Arts
As well as in one or more of the following areas:
- Community Engagement
- Facilitation Skills
- Community Research
- Programme Evaluation and/or Social Impact Assessment
[What you will be working on]
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate students’ learning and growth, including providing pastoral care.
- Develop curriculum across Pre-Employment Training (PET) and adult learners for Continuing Education Training (CET), aligned to industry trends and needs.
- Deliver course content, which includes creating and administering course assessments, and carrying out project supervision, leading module teams where necessary.
- Evaluate and enhance curriculum design and course delivery by employing appropriate teaching and learning strategies.
- Engage actively with industry stakeholders to keep up with emerging practices, trends and developments, or leading student projects and share insights with the team.
- Collaborate with industry stakeholders so that learners may leverage on them for enhanced learning.
- Lead or contribute to school or institutional committees to complement administrative/management/teaching and learning efforts.
- Lead or contribute to new initiatives of the school or institution, in response to changing needs in the industry.
[What we are looking for]
Requirements:
- At least 4 years(s) of relevant experience of using the arts in community engagement and/or community development.
- Relevant qualifications in applied arts or other arts-based related disciplines.
- Passionate in developing individuals who are interested in community engagement/development.
- Prior experience in design thinking, project management and knowledge of research methods will be an advantage.
- Prior experience in teaching/working with youths or curriculum development will be an advantage.
- Good intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.
Successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
