We are the University of Cambridge presence in Singapore called Cambridge CARES, sponsored by the NRF CREATE program CAM.CREATE. CARES also hosts industry-funded and other agencies funded projects. CARES is leading a new project “Sustainable Manufacture of Molecules and Materials (SM3)”, funded by NRF CREATE programme within the Decarbonisation Grand Challenge. SM3project is a collaboration with NTU, NUS, CARES & the University of Cambridge and EPFL. The broad aim of the project is to develop novel approaches and technologies for fully de-fossilised routes to complex functional molecules and molecular materials. The project will explore novel chemical transformations for conversion of net-zero feedstocks to building blocks typically used in pharma, agrochem and other end applications. The project will also explore novel synthetic methods for conversion of the building blocks into end-use functional molecules. Novel synthesis technologies (photoelectrochemistry, sonochemistry, mechanochemistry, etc), as well as advanced research methods (AI, chemoinformatics, high-throughput synthesis) and process metrics (LCA and technoeconomic analysis) are included in this large project.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking to fill a vacancy of a Research Fellow or a Senior Research Fellow. The successful candidate would have a PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a strong interest in Process Systems Engineering and Machine Learning (AI) for Chemical Engineering. The ideal candidate would have experience in developing first principle process models in Matlab/gPROMS or Python, process optimization, machine learning for chemical processes.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join our dynamic research team focusing on designing, adapting, and implementing cutting-edge mechanical and electronic systems for a decentralized food manufacturing model. As part of the Proteins4Singapore project, this role involves on utilizing simulations and advanced control systems to optimize and ensure quality in novel food textures and forms. This position plays a critical role in advancing sustainable protein solutions for urban environments through interdisciplinary collaboration, drawing expertise from mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and food engineering. Key Responsibilities

• Develop a closed-loop control system to synchronize high-moisture extrusion and shape manipulator systems with a seamless integration and quality assurance.

Job Description:

Be part of an exciting team working on cutting-edge advanced packaging process technologies. Participate in process development and integration solution to enable advanced packaging process technologies in the world of mobile, IoT, consumer and high-performance computing area. Partner and work with various teams from inside and outside of IME to help develop leading-edge packaging solutions for our customers, taking the solutions from concept to mass production. Responsibilities will include assisting in operations support in clean room to make sure projects are completed successfully and delivered on time.

Responsibilities:

• Operate semiconductor equipment to perform processes, measurement, and inspection of wafers. (Include equipment setup, loading and unloading of wafers)
• Monitor basic equipment/process errors and perform recovery.

Job Description:

Be part of an exciting team working on cutting-edge advanced packaging process technologies. Participate in process development and integration solution to enable advanced packaging process technologies in the world of mobile, IoT, consumer and high-performance computing area. Partner and work with various teams from inside and outside of IME to help develop leading-edge packaging solutions for our customers, taking the solutions from concept to mass production. Responsibilities will include assisting in operations support in clean room to make sure projects are completed successfully and delivered on time.

This position is based in Singapore.

Responsibilities:

• Operate semiconductor equipment to perform processes, measurement, and inspection of wafers. (Include equipment setup, loading and unloading of wafers)
• Monitor basic equipment/process errors and perform recovery.
• Work with internal and external parties to align for tool time, execute process sequence and collect data to feedback to integration owner.
• Logistically transport wafer lots between equipment within cleanroom and between worksites.
• Identify and address potential areas for improvements such as cycle time, utilization, and cost.
• Perform chemical change/ top-up for equipment under supervision.
• Understand and follow all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) procedures and requirements.
• The candidate may be required to perform shift work (Mon-Fri).

Experience:

• NITEC/ Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering
• Basic understanding on semiconductor process is preferred
• 1-3 years of experience in semiconductor processes (Litho, Etch, CVD, PVD, Plating, Metrology etc.) will be added advantages

Job Description

We are looking for a Scientific Partnership and Alliance Manager. The role would be to support the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM) in new scientific initiatives with new or existing partners leading to answering grant calls, initiating new scientific consortiums and subsequent management of new scientific alliances.

The job scope will cover the following aspects:

Solicitation, networking and events

• Support the Director in reaching out to partners soliciting interest in partnerships
• Organise networking symposiums and discussion platforms
• Communicate with partners and align with partnership goals
• Match and track partnerships that lead to concrete projects

White paper

• Prepare white papers to launch new initiatives reaching out to partners soliciting interest in partnerships
• Discuss with research partners on contribution, requirements, deliverables and goals

Grantsmanship support, proposal crafting and post-award management

• Support Directors, PIs, and partners with proposal writing and collate preliminary data
• Work on references, editorial and proof reading
• Compile proposals with inputs on budget and CVs (working in partnership with I-FIM's research administrator)

Liaison with funding agencies and NUS Office of Deputy President for Research and Technology (ODPRT)

• Lead discussions with various funding agencies (Singapore and overseas) in securing funding for agreed research initiatives
• Collaborate with NUS and partners in setting up management framework of such research enterprise space
• Lead discussions on establishment of enterprise, space, budgetary matters, scope of research, deliverables and tracking

Management of partnerships that will involve agreements and resource planning

• Support Directors and PIs on agreements and documentation with partners (in collaboration with Admin Director)
• Work on resource planning and pledging on such agreements
• Work with NUS business office and legal counsels in crafting agreements
• Administer implementation of such agreements including reporting, invoicing, payments and cost recovery (where applicable)

Budget management and payment

• Oversee and regularly update equipment and maintenance budget and yearly procurement schedule to ensure timely utilization of allocated funds in every Financial Year of all external grant funding
• Ensure suppliers comply with terms and conditions and stick to committed delivery timelines. Engage with NUS procurement and legal teams on penalizing suppliers for extended delay in delivery.
• Perform grant virement as and when required

Project management

• Track performance of partnerships
• Write reports
• Joint conferences and symposiums
• Spring board to upscale enterprise and/or scope of alliances

Job Requirements

• PhD degree in Materials Science, Engineering or their equivalent from a reputable university
• Have at least 5 years of working experience in research administration and management
• Experience with grant writing and agreements
• Excellent command of English and communication skills
• Strong people skills
