Teaching:
1. Curriculum Development and Implementation:
a. Plans and implements developmentally appropriate,
child centre learning experiences based on
i) The policies, philosophy, mission, vision and goals of Little Village
ii) The learning outcomes outlined in Little Village’s Curriculum Framework (LVCF), MOE Kindergarten Curriculum Framework (KCG)
b. Comes prepare for curriculum-based meetings with Principal/Curriculum Mentor as scheduled
c. Submits weekly teaching plans to Principal/Curriculum Mentor as scheduled
d. Plan, set-up and create a learning environment which encourages exploration, collaboration, thinking, creativity and problem-solving opportunities
2. Management of the Learning Environment
Ensures indoor and outdoor learning environments/experiences are:
i) Physically and psychologically safe to ensure the physical as well as emotional safety of all children
iii) Intellectually stimulating so as to cultivate intellectual curiosity
iv) Intentionally designed to foster the achievement of learning outcomes, the development of self-regulation as well as other dispositions that will enable children to go on learning
3. Interactions with Children
a. Shows regard for children’s perspective (e.g. encourage children to talk; elicit ideas and/or perspectives, incorporate children’s ideas and follow children’s leads while accomplishing/keeping in mind the main objective of the lesson)
b. Treats each child with dignity and respect at all times
c. Promotes the development of conflict resolution skills by facilitating the children’s conversations and interactions when necessary
d. Actively interacts with children throughout the school day – including all caregiving routines such as meal times and toileting as well as outdoor and free play
4. Observations and Assessment
a. Engages in on-going observation, documentation and evaluation to inform curriculum planning
i. Collects, organizes, documents and analyses children’s work/activities
ii. Develops and maintains children’s portfolios
5. Relationships with Families and Community
a. Develops trusting and positive relationships with all children in the class and their parents
b. Creates meaningful opportunities for parents’ involvement and possible collaborations with them and community partners (e.g. public library, schools and museums).
6. Team and Workplace Effectiveness
a. Demonstrates willingness to support the teaching team as needed
b. Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with colleagues, children, families and others
c. Performs additional duties as assigned by the management according to the school’s needs
7. Professional Development
a. Actively engages in on-going reflections and evaluations to fine-tune teaching practices
b. Works with Principal/Curriculum Mentor to develop a professional development map based on identified areas of improvement
c. Participates in recommended training programmes, conferences and courses for professional growth
d. Applies knowledge attained through training in the development and implementation of the curriculum
e. Contributes to the professional development of fellow teachers by sharing professional learning through in-house sharing sessions, workshops as well as presentations at local and international conferences.
