NES is currently supporting the recruitment of a Chief Process Safety Engineer to join our client on a 12-month contract.
This role requires process safety design experience rather than Field HSE experience.
Job Responsibilities:
- Independently carry out Design Safety Philosophy, HSE Plan, and specifications for fire protection systems (Active and Passive), HFE, etc.
- Participate in Process Hazard reviews and analysis including HAZOP/HAZID/SIL studies and be responsible for actions close-out.
- Lead/Chair the HAZOP/HAZID/SIL workshops, if required.
- Review Third Party safety studies including FERA, Dispersion analysis, EERA, ESSA, Dropped objects study, QRA studies, etc. Capable of independently carrying out similar Safety studies, as required.
- Design Active and Passive Fire Protection systems and prepare Hazardous/H2S Area Classification documentation, Safety and Fire Fighting layouts, escape route and lifesaving equipment layout, and other Safety drawings.
- Develop Safety critical elements performance standards, RAM, fire and gas detection mapping, etc. based on project requirements.
- Act as Package Engineer for Safety and firefighting equipment.
- Manage and guide Junior/Senior Engineers and Designers on Concept/FEED/Detailed Engineering projects.
- Provide health and environmental inputs to projects, including health risk assessments (chemical exposure, noise, lighting), Ergonomics/Human Factors Engineering, environmental impact assessments, etc.
- Interface/Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, clients, and take the lead in resolving technical matters related to safety aspects.
- Deliver project Safety deliverables as per project schedule.
- Provide inputs and support to projects in all Safety aspects, including progress reports.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
- Minimum 22 years of relevant Design Engineering experience.
- Extensive HSE Engineering experience in the Oil and Gas industry, specifically in Process Safety/Technical Safety, with at least 3-5 years in a Lead position on similar projects.
- Experience in design projects for Offshore (FPSO/Platforms) and Onshore (Refineries, LNG facilities, Storage terminals, etc.).
- Significant experience in Offshore projects (FPSO/Platforms).
- Strong knowledge of Oil and Gas process facilities, local and international Process Safety codes and standards, and regulatory/marine codes and standards (MODU, SOLAS, DNV/Lloyds Register).
- Hands-on experience in Plot plan review, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL classification/verification, and other safety reviews (e.g., SIMOPS, ALARP).
- Proficiency in PIPENET Vision, Flaresim, and other consequence modeling software such as DNV PHAST.
- Ability to influence designs to achieve optimal HSE outcomes.
- A team player with leadership potential and proactive inter-discipline communication skills.
Key Skills :
- Leadership and project management of process safety and Loss prevention teams.
- Development of safety systems design, safety studies, risk assessments, change management, and field design changes.
- Engineering of firewater systems, gas extinguishing systems, fire & gas detection systems, and related safety documentation.
- Coordination and verification of safety studies and compliance with safety regulations.
- Participation in HAZOP, HAZID reviews, safety audits, and emergency shutdown philosophy reviews.
- Management of Change recommendations and work instructions.
- Preparation of tender specifications, basic studies, schematic drawings, bid evaluations, and technical offers.
- Installation, start-up, and commissioning of firewater systems and equipment.
- Proficiency in relevant codes and standards (ISO 31000, IEC, NORSOK, API, NFPA, DNV, ASME, OSHA, etc.).
