DESCRIPTION

As a Lead Electrical Engineer for FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading), you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems onboard FPSO vessels. You will lead a team of electrical engineers and technicians, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of electrical equipment and systems in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Your role will involve overseeing electrical design, integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities to support FPSO operations and project execution. The Lead Electrical Engineer’s scope will consist of the following:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers and technicians involved in the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems onboard FPSO vessels.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee electrical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning phases.
• Develop electrical specifications, drawings, and technical documents in accordance with project requirements, class society rules, and regulatory standards (e.g., ABS, DNVGL).
• Review and approve electrical design deliverables, including single-line diagrams, schematics, equipment layouts, cable schedules, and equipment specifications.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and vendors to ensure the successful integration of electrical systems with overall FPSO design and project objectives.
• Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and feasibility studies for electrical engineering projects, identifying opportunities for optimization and improvement.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices for electrical safety, performance, and reliability.
• Provide technical support and guidance during procurement activities, including specification of electrical equipment and materials, vendor evaluation, and bid review.
• Lead commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting activities for electrical systems and equipment onboard FPSO vessels, ensuring adherence to project specifications and quality standards.
• Monitor and analyse electrical system performance, reliability, and efficiency, identifying opportunities for optimization, maintenance, and upgrades to support FPSO operations.

REQUIREMENTS

• Able to relocate to Dubai for minimum 6 months rotation due to project requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PE license) is preferred.
• Proven experience (10+ years) in electrical engineering, with a focus on marine and offshore projects, particularly FPSO vessels.
• Strong technical knowledge and expertise in electrical engineering principles, practices, and standards, including marine electrical systems, power distribution, and hazardous area classification.
• Familiarity with class society rules (e.g., ABS, DNVGL), regulatory requirements (e.g., IMO, SOLAS), and industry standards applicable to FPSO electrical systems.
• Proficiency in electrical design software and tools, such as AutoCAD, ETAP, EPLAN, or equivalent programs, for schematic design, calculations, and analysis.
• Experience leading and managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, with demonstrated leadership abilities and effective communication skills.
• In-depth understanding of electrical safety practices, hazard analysis, and risk assessment methodologies applicable to marine and offshore environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and challenging offshore environment, with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental protection.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Development of technical specifications for HV/MV/LV electrical equipment in compliance with international standards and project specifications for onshore and offshore process modules.

• Perform technical bid evaluation of vendor technical offers, manage vendor deviations, make technical negotiations and align with project requirements for electrical equipment including but not limited to motor, generator, transformer, distribution board, variable frequency drive, soft starter, heat tracing, power cable and accessory systems.
• Make design calculations not limited to fault level, lighting design, cable sizing, heat tracing, and equipment sizing calculations for battery/battery charger/MCC.
• Generate electrical bulk MTO for the modules under battery limits.
• Coordinate with 3D/2D designers to make cable tray layout, electrical equipment layout, integration documents, interconnection diagram, single line, schemes as per project requirement.
• Perform technical review of the layouts, drawings and documents prepared by designers and drafters.
• Review and develop technical deviations for project specifications, coordination with customer.
• Prepare material requisition and make purchase request for procurement per project requirement.
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary engineers, ensuring timely engineering inputs and manage dependencies, deliver documentation per schedule.

Position is based in Batam, Indonesia. Candidate should have the relevant certifications in CompEx, ETAP etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead a structural engineering team consisting of structural engineer, designers and draft persons to perform analysis/calculation and design drafting work
• Coordinating all structural design activities on the project and reviewing and approving all structural deliverables prior to release
• Supervises and provides design direction to subordinates
• Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews team’s work
• Prepare/Review structural design basis document
• Prepare/review structural analyses and design reports
• Prepare/review structural material specifications, fabrication specifications, Installation specifications
• Review key structural design drawings and MTO
• Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to clients and upper management
• Prepares team estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly. Estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work to meet schedule dates
• Review design documents of other disciplines, equipment manufacturers or subcontractors and prepare comments and recommendations

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experienced in modularized project, at least having 15 years of working experience on steel structural engineering design
• Thorough knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards (API, AISC, ISO, DNV, NORSOK, ABS, ASME, OSHA etc.) and design criteria in offshore structural engineering
• Thorough hands-on working knowledge of SACS, STAAD Pro, ANSYS etc. offshore structural analysis software
• A recognized degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structural engineering, from a accredited college or university
• Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with at least 10 years in oil and gas industry, with at least 5 recent years in project lead role
• Be with valuable high-level exposure to detailed design, estimating, and construction site
• Understanding of the roles of other disciplines on the project and key information interfaces, including naval architecture, piping, mechanical equipment, E&I and process safety input
• Proficient in MS Office applications
