This is a full-time, onsite, Food Science Lab Assistant Role in MOE Secondary School. If you are selected,

You will work closely with the NFS Teachers & supervisor, HODs in an MOE Secondary school (Nearest MRT : Bishan MRT) in the day-to-day activities.

Responsibilities:

1.Practical Lesson Preparation

• Assist teacher in the preparation of ingredients prior to the start of the practical lessons.
• Assist teacher in placing order for foodstuff and ingredients
• Assist in the setting up and cleaning of food lab equipment and utensils

2.Stock Check

• Replace broken glassware from stock and be responsible for all equipment used in the teaching of Food & Consumer Education / Nutrition Food Science Practical Lessons.
• Keep a stock book / excel stock sheet and breakage record to indicate necessary replacements
• Prepare an inventory of stocks annually for the annual stock take exercise

3.Cleaning and Maintenance

• Maintain and upkeep food lab equipment including stoves, ovens and other cooking equipment
• Responsible for the general cleanliness and safety of the food lab

4.Student Supervision

• Supervise students in the food lab during the absence of the teacher (e.g. emergency toilet break)

5.Admin Duties

• Ensure goods delivered are as per order
• Help to keep notice board up to date (Use Microsoft word to create new signs and labels)
• During School holidays and curriculum downtime, the personnel may be asked to help out with any other duties as and when assigned.
• In the event of downtime during the FCE curriculum, The Food Lab Technician will be deployed to assist in the General Office or any other areas required.
• Any other duties as and when assigned by the teachers/HOD.

Job Requirements:

• Secondary School Education
• 1year of experience in School’s Food Laboratory duties
• Has knowledge in using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc

Working hours:

The Food Lab Technician is required to work a 42-hour work week.

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7:00am to 4:00pm, inclusive of 0.5 hr lunch break
• Fridays: 7:00am to 3:30pm, inclusive of 0.5hr lunch break
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays

Responsibilities:

1.Daily Kitchen Duties

• Daily upkeep of the kitchens, including general cleanliness of food lab equipment, table tops, floor and sinks.
• Daily upkeep of kitchen facilities and equipment, including the hot water dispenser, refrigerator, oven and stove as well as the other appliances in the food labs.
• Daily checks and maintenance of the placements of tools and utensils.
• Daily management of food in the kitchen fridges and other storage containers. To inform Food Lab Manager or the NFS Unit coordinator if any of the ingredients are running low.
• Daily preparation of raw materials for classes (the cutting of meat/fish, separation of ingredients into specified portions according to class size, etc).
• Regular checks and management of utensils and cookware in the individual kitchen top and work station and to ensure that all food labs items are organized and accounted for.

2. Weekly / Monthly/ Termly Kitchen Duties

• Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the signs (safety and miscellaneous) and posters in the kitchens.
• Assist in the termly kitchen stock-take of the equipment and utensils as instructed by Food Lab Manager or the NFS Unit coordinator.
• Labelling and bi-annual cleaning of tabletops, shelves and equipment which are to be done at least twice a year during the test/exam periods or June and December Holidays.
• Termly checks on perishables in the fridge and other containers.

3. Additional Duties

• Support afternoon cooking programs that take place in the food labs.
• Support school-based activities involving the use of food

Job Requirements:

• Basic certifications relating to food preparation and food safety;
• Proficient in English as a medium of verbal and written communication;
• 2 years of working experience in related fields (culinary, food preparation etc);
• Has experience in store management and organization.
