Job Description:

1. Conduct research and develop new products according to project briefs.
2. Perform necessary lab tests, including but not limited to stability testing, compatibility testing, and performance evaluations.
3. Provide technical support during scale-up, pilot batches, and production
4. Conduct research work to improve or create alternative solutions to existing products to meet customers’ requirement
5. Optimize existing formulations for improved performance, or compliance with regulatory and quality requirement
6. Troubleshoot and support product quality or other issues raised by customers
7. Source and evaluate new or alternative raw materials when required.
8. Work closely with other functions such as sales and production to meet customers’ requirement
9. Oral and written communications of technical results to Management
10. Maintain a good document control system for formulation and other technical information
11. Lead and manage the lab department
12. Any other adhoc work assigned by the supervisor

Position objective and summary

• Conduct research and development activities related to waste recycling and management processes.

Main tasks / activities / responsibilities

• Research and Development: Conduct research and development activities related to waste recycling and management processes. This may involve designing and implementing experiments, analyzing data, and developing innovative solutions to improve waste recycling and management practices.
• Laboratory Testing: Perform laboratory tests and analyses on waste samples to determine their composition, characteristics, and potential for recycling or disposal. This may include physical, chemical, and biological testing methods.
• Process Optimization: Collaborate with other laboratory team members, Operations team and other departments to optimize waste recycling and management processes. Identify areas for improvement and propose modifications or enhancements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze experimental data and prepare technical reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Present research results to internal stakeholders, clients, or regulatory agencies as required.
• Compliance with Regulations: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards governing waste recycling and management activities. Stay updated on regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments to laboratory procedures and practices.
• Equipment Maintenance and Calibration: Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results. Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
• Safety and Quality Assurance: Adhere to strict safety protocols and quality assurance procedures in the laboratory. Implement and enforce proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Conduct regular safety inspections and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations team, Sales team and other departments, to support waste recycling and management projects. Communicate research findings, project updates, and technical information effectively to team members, management and stakeholders.
• Continuous Learning and Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in waste recycling and management through continuous learning and professional development activities. Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and training programs to enhance knowledge and skills.
• Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of laboratory procedures, test results, and research activities. Ensure proper documentation and archiving of data for future reference and regulatory compliance.

Job requirements

• Minimum 2 to 3 years of past working experience.
• At least Degree in Chemistry or any related course
• Experience in handling chemical equipment, Good analytical skills
• Organized, self-motivated, optimistic, good working attitude and teamwork.

Reports to: APAC R&D Director

Location: Singapore

Works with: Regional and Global R&D members, Process Engineering, Product Development, Quality

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the development of new adhesive and sealant materials for variety of markets including automotive, aerospace, rail and construction
• Complete necessary tests needed to develop adhesives and sealants
• Assist in scale up trials taking R&D prototypes to manufacturing
• Assist in product development, taking R&D developments to market
• Work with internal and external customers to understand requirements and specifications for new developments
• Assist Quality Department when problem solving needs arise by utilizing a science-based approach
• Assist material validation at customer
• Detailed record keeping in laboratory notebook
• Generation of intellectual property when appropriate
• Other tasks assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

• Bachelor or Master degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or Polymer Science
• Work experience in a laboratory or technical field highly desired
• Experience with rheology using parallel plate rheometer beneficial
• Experience with mechanical testing highly desired (tensile, shear and compression testing)
• Experience with titration techniques beneficial
• Knowledge of thermos-analysis techniques such as DSC, TGA and TMA beneficial
• Knowledge of FTIR useful
• Ability to work independently
• Fluent in both written and oral English
• Good communication skills both written and oral
