The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Fellow in the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing (SoC). The Research Fellow will be responsible for working closely with the Principal Investigator on one or more research projects.

(“Research fellow” is similar to “post-doctoral researcher”, in the terminology of some other countries.) The appointee is expected to work closely with Associate Prof. YU Haifeng (http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~yuhf) on issues related to distributed systems security and distributed computing. We are looking for a candidate for high-speed analog and mixed-signal integrated circuit design. This candidate will contribute to the development of high-speed silicon photonics transceiver for next generation wireline communication system. This requires the candidate to work closely with the optics team on the electro/optical co-design as well as system integration and validation.

• Perform system level analysis and design, to derive circuit-level design specifications.
• Design and tapeout ICs which include state-of-the-art circuit blocks e.g. analog-to-digital converter, equalizers (CTLE, DFE) as part of the high-speed data link system.
• Work together with team to investigate novel circuit/system solutions to create new inventions

Job Requirements

• Qualification & Field of Study: Minimum Bachelor’s degree and above in Electrical Engineering
• Min. Years of Experience: Minimum 2-years of transistor level analog circuit design experience

Other Requirements (e.g. Skills, Competencies)

• Good understanding of CMOS analog and mixed-signal IC design methodologies and successful tapeout experience

Job Description

One Research Engineer position is open in the research group of Assistant Professor Zhao Lin, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Research Engineer (will) will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on reinforcement learning control and learning-based control, which leverage the advantages of both deep learning and conventional controls with theoretical guarantees. The RE will develop AI-assisted planning and control algorithms that enable intelligent and robust autonomous operations and multi-agent collaborations. Hardware experiments will be carried out to test and demonstrate the applications of the developed algorithms.

The initial appointment duration is 12 months, which can then be extended based on an evaluation at the end of the initial appointment.

The research project involves (1) theoretical research in control, learning, and optimization, (2) developing new control and learning algorithms, and (3) 3D Simulations and real hardware experiments.

The candidates should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a reputable university, with expertise in control theory, reinforcement learning theory, and aerial robotics.

A successful candidate should have a solid mathematical background (such as in calculus, linear algebra, ODE/PDE, optimization, real analysis, probability theory, stochastic process, etc). Strong publication records in leading journals and conferences, and practical hands-on experience in applying reinforcement learning to real robotics applications (e.g., autonomous driving and unmanned aerial vehicles) will be a big plus.

Qualifications

• Possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in either Electrical Engineering or strictly related (e.g., Mathematics, Computer, Communication, Mechanical, or Information Engineering).
• Have research experiences in control, reinforcement learning, distributed optimization, multi-agent, autonomous driving, and/or UAVs.
• Possess a strong academic record proved through coursework (especially math-intensive courses) and projects during his/her undergraduate and master’s studies.
• Proficient in C++ or Python. Familiar with machine-learning tools and packages. Familiar with various 3D simulation environments for quadrotor simulations. Familiar with ROS and quadrotor control algorithm.
• Have well-established analytical and problem-solving skills, as documented by publications that are relevant to the field of control theory and robotics applications, reinforcement learning control for robotics applications.
• Excellent communication skills as he/she is required to publish and present results at conferences and journals independently.
• Activity performed in world-class research environments is highly valued.

As the Research Engineer (Equipment/Operations), you are directly involved in tool installation activities for semiconductor process tools. You would need to work proactively to coordinate with the contractor on the ground for the execution and take corrective and preventive actions of lessons learned, due diligently to prevent reoccurrence. You are responsible for performing utilities turn-on after installation is completed. You must perform the activities per ASTAR site procedure and safety policies to ensure all tool-install-related activities are completed, meeting safety, quality, schedule and budget requirements. You will also be required to perform other activities such as operations for the different semiconductor modules (Diffusion, Litho, Dry/Wet Etch, Thin Film, Implant, etc).

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with all tool-install base contractors to execute equipment hookup for new tools, to meet the high-quality standards, dynamic schedule, and forecasted budget.
• Coordinate with the Project owner (NGTC/APM) to facilitate utility release as per the planned schedule and update tool release status timely
• Follow all safety and environmental procedures to ensure compliance with EHS-related regulations, risk assessment, safe work procedures, and permit-to-work system.
• Play an active role in safety, actively participating in safety discussions and safe work practices.
• Establish regular area walks to identify opportunities for improved safety, cleanliness, housekeeping and efficiency
• Establish regular, working interaction with peers as well as vendors in tool installation & facilitation, communicating clearly and respectfully all relevant information.
• Keep the reporting officer informed regarding the progress of assigned work and any abnormalities observed in your area.
• Demonstrate ability to understand drawing and highlighting discrepancies

Requirements:

Senior Scientist for Advanced Photonics

As part of IME’s Photonics & Sensors Department, the candidate will take the lead for the development of advanced photonics integration. This could include but not limited as photonic heterogeneous integration by bring various best-in-class materials into silicon wafer, electro-photonics integration, etc. You will work closely with an excellent multidisciplinary team involving photonics, semiconductor process, and fab operation.

Responsibilities:

• Development of various photonics integration capabilities with 8-inch and 12-inch facilities, with emphasis on photonics heterogenous integration.
• Design and fabricate various advanced photonics components and integrated circuits aiming for next-generation photonic applications.
• Design of Experiments (DOE) for both design and process margin checking and control.
• Process metrology data taking, device / circuit performance data taking.
• Data analysis and documentation
• Preparation of technical presentations and papers for internal meetings, as well as conferences and journals.
• Collaborate with project team to ensure quality and on-time delivery for various projects.
