The R&D Packaging Engineer will be a part of the newly formed Sustainability Center of Excellence (COE) located in BD Singapore. The Sustainability COE is modeled after the Sustainable Medical Technology Institute (SMTI) and will have the same mandate as the SMTI. In this role, the Packaging Engineer will be responsible for execution of the broader R&D Sustainability strategy at BD. This individual will help integrate sustainability focus into programs for making changes to current products and to new product development programs in all 8 BD businesses. In particular, this individual will support Design for Sustainability efforts within BD’s R&D portfolio. This will require ability on the candidate’s part to work cross-functionally and with different stakeholders across geographies. Some travel may be required.

This is a critical role in the COE and this individual will drive activities focused on assessing and reducing the carbon footprint of BD products. The long-term vision is to have environmental sustainability become an integral part of the product and packaging development process, and the work done by him /her will be instrumental in enabling this outcome. The R&D Packaging Engineer supports design, development, and validation of medical device packaging. This includes test method development and alignment to existing and evolving global standards governing packaging.

• Producing client-facing reports on Wider Asia energy – for example, Aurora’s Power & Renewables Market Forecast report – a multi-scenario, 30-year forecast analysing all the key trends in the region’s electricity market which is produced 2-4 times per year and is used by clients for market entry, investment decisions and market scanning.
• Helping with new market entry, developing deep expertise on how the market works and how Aurora can adapt our software to model it.
• The team also owns internal assumptions and methodologies on a wide range of topics such as energy technology costs, interconnectors, ancillary service markets, green subsidies, and flexible energy market dynamics. The team undertakes primary research and analysis, engages with clients to benchmark Aurora’s views, and works with internal stakeholders to implement and align assumptions and methodologies. About the Team

The Seed Foundation Machine Learning (ML) Systems team provides end-to-end (E2E) machine learning experience and machine learning resources for the company. The team builds heterogeneous ML training and inference systems based on GPU and AI chips and advances the state-of-the-art of ML systems technology to accelerate models such as stable diffusion and LLM.

Welcome to the GAI-Vision team, where we lead the way in developing foundational models for multi-modal visual understanding and generation. Our mission is to solve the challenge of visual intelligence in AI. We conduct cutting-edge research on areas such as vision and language, large-scale vision models, and generative foundation models. Responsibilities

- Explore large-scale/ultra-large-scale visual models and perform system optimization. Data construction, instruction fine-tuning, preference alignment, model optimization.

- Conduct cutting-edge research and development in computer vision, natural language processing, machine learning and general artificial intelligence, especially in the areas of multi-modality, vision and language, etc.

- Publish our latest research results, and help to build our brand in the research community.

- Explore vision/multi-modality application models, and contribute to the development of new technologies and products leveraging artificial intelligence.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

- Possess research and practical experience in one or more areas of computer vision, encompassing multi-modal understanding, vision-language models (e.g., video captioning, VQA, Text-to-video retrieval, and other related topics), large-scale training, RLHF, multimodal generation (e.g., text-to-image, image, video, 3D generation and editing), diffusion models, GANs, transformers for generation tasks.

- Experience with vision-language models and apply them in various downstream tasks.

- Possess coding skills in C/C++ and Python.

- Collaborate effectively with team members.

- Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

- Work with large-scale datasets, and build large-scale datasets to scale up foundation models.

- Demonstrate impactful publications in leading AI conferences (e.g., CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH Asia) and journals (e.g., TPAMI, JMLR).

- Achievement as a winner in international academic competitions.

- Proficiency in one of the differentiable programming frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, etc.

Responsibilities

• Site Product Manufacturing and Release Support. Provide front line support to the product manufacturing process analytics, release testing and working with the QC teams (internal sites), or in close collaboration with CDMO Analytical Expert counterparts, focusing on the testing methods for each batch, their release on time and in compliance with the batch and analytical procedures instructions and quality requirements.
• Qualification & Validation. Support the execution of analytical methods qualifications and/or validations, re-validations, Annual Monitoring Batch (AMB) and short-term improvement projects, liaising with all the relevant parties at shopfloor (internally) or CDMO manufacturing team (externally) to ensure accurate execution. Review and ensure that qualification / validation protocols and report are technically correct and in compliance with all applicable international guidelines and requirements. Ensure protocols are executed, as intended.
• Technical improvement execution. Execute analytical methods improvements and support methods development for additional product and/or process related characterization studies.
  Ensure that process technical batches generate sufficient analytical methods knowledge by thoroughly testing critical variables (e.g., DOE, QbD, PAT).
• Primary packaging closure assessment during changes. Drive the qualification and/or validation of primary packaging materials testing methods including the design of container suitability studies for the assigned product(s). Evaluate and ensure, in case of packaging change, that the primary packaging closure - including materials - are sufficient to ensure stability of the product and do not deteriorate quality.
• Assure consistency of Analytical Testing Procedures. Ensure that all critical and significant parameters are within written Instruction (e.g., Testing procedures, Validation Plan), sufficient and appropriate for the product. Derive in collaboration with the internal sites (QC team) / CDMO analytical team, the upper and lower control limits for each product analytical methods (where relevant), as part of the CPV program launch for all products
• Deviation, Out of Expectation, Out of Specification, complaint handling. Lead and/or support the GPS organization with all product and process related analytical investigations and deviations including complaints, Out of Expectation, Out of Specification, in partnership with internal / external site analytical teams. Use scientific and statistical knowledge to analyze data to provide process understanding, and to identify root causes of product and process failures.
• Annual Product Reviews and Product Quality Reviews. Be highly knowledgeable of product and process trends by providing input to Annual Product Reviews and Product Quality Review for analysis and for driving process technology innovations. Be a resource to other departments as Subject Matter Expert for the product and process knowledge.

Requirements

• BSc. In Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology, Chemistry, Engineering, or equivalent scientific degree. Desirable MSc. or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years experience as QC/IPC laboratory scientist of pharmaceutical /chemical GMP environment, or analytical methods development scientist.
• Basic knowledge of current CPV / OPV product and process data analysis and monitoring tools and usage
• Fundamental understanding of international regulatory requirements across multiple health authorities is a plus.
• Fundamental understanding of standard pharmaceutical analytical testing and methods development.
• 5S / 6S Lean Six Sigma Certification.
• Fluent in Japanese speaking a plus to liaise with Native Japanese stakeholders and headquarter.
