Two PostDoctoral positions (research fellow) are available in the group of Assistant Professor Yanwei LUM at the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The goal of the project is to develop highly efficient and selective electrocatalysts for recycling of waste CO¬2 into chemicals and fuels. Such catalysts will be integrated into lab scale CO2 electrochemical reactors where conversion will take place. The research fellows are also expected to play an active role in guiding and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the group.

Some examples of activities to be carried out in the project are:

1) Regularly perform materials synthesis and characterization for the development of novel electrocatalysts.
2) Sample preparation for electrocatalytic studies.
3) Carry out electrochemical techniques to determine electrocatalyst performance.

Job Summary

The job holder (2 year contract) heads the PEO and reports to DCE. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Officer will assist the Principal Investigators (PI) to oversee the smooth running and tracking progress of clinical research studies related activities and project. This include:

• Perform DNA extraction, sample quality control, prepare sequencing libraries and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) on clinical samples
• Collate multiple datasets and perform statistical analysis (not restricted to regression) for molecular (genomic and blood biomarker) epidemiology studies
• Perform bio-banking and cataloguing of biological samples
• To work closely with clinical research coordinators, scientist and other stakeholders
• To assist PI in project management and administration for multiple research projects, including ethics review applications to NHG DSRB
• To maintain clinical studies documentation in accordance with quality requirements
• • To assist PI with report generation, scientific meeting/conference presentations
• To produce high quality research reports, presentation and assist PI in publications
• Supervise and mentor internship studies
• To assist the PI in other day-to-day tasks as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science or Diploma in life science with at least 5 years’ experience in relevant field
• Experience in Molecular Assays (DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction [PCR], qPCR) and Immuno assay (ELISA)
• Hands on experience in NGS workflow and data analysis
• Excellent academic writing and communication skills
• Able to work independently as well as with a team

Desirable

• Experience of developing research projects and bringing them to successful completion
• Relevant experience using analysis large epidemiological cohort studies
• Experience in using statistical analysis tools (e.g. STATA or R)
• Experience in Genomic DNA methylation will be added advantage

Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for 01 postdoc position with immediate effect in the Department of Biochemistry, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Appointments will be made on contract basis for a duration of 3 years.

Purpose of the post

Membrane transporters regulate the transport of nutrients through cell membrane. Our previous work has shown the importance of these transporters for animal physiology (Nature, 2017, JBC 2020, Nat Comms 2021, JCI 2020). We are currently interested in studying the roles of membrane transporters for understanding the transport of metabolites from the circulation system for organ development and functions.

Main duties and responsibilities

The postdoc candidate will lead research projects in which he or she will work with the PI to study the physiological impacts of membrane transporters in cells/animals physiology. The postdoc candidate will be able to:

1. Independently lead research projects with experience in mouse work.
2. Design and Perform experiments, interpret the data, and write papers.
3. Assist with any other duties such as training junior lab members.
4. Strong team player skills and the ability to work harmoniously with a diverse workforce.

Qualifications

The applicants should hold a PhD or MD with strong interests and 0-5 years of experiences in lipid biochemistry and membrane proteins. The applicants should have at least 01-02 research articles as a first author in peer-reviewed journals before applying for the position. Open-access journals such as MDPI journals might not be eligible for consideration. Experiences should include the follows but not limited to:

• Strong research interests in biochemistry and membrane proteins.
• Experience in working with knockout mouse models.
• Experience with gene expression in common cell lines and primary murine cells.
• Experience with basic molecular biology techniques is preferred such as molecular cloning, protein expression/purification, immunoprecipitation, Western blots.

We are recruiting a full-time Research Assistant to support the Principal Investigator, Associate Professor Natasha Howard, in the implementation and administration of research projects in the areas of health equity, infectious disease control, and global health.

Responsibilities:
The research assistant will focus on research and administration in infectious disease control policy and health system strengthening in the Asia region. This will include:
• Supporting qualitative and quantitative research, including contributing to design, implementation, analysis, and write-up of journal manuscripts and reports/policy outputs.
• Project management and administration for multiple research projects, including ethics review applications to NUS IRB and study country review boards, donor reporting, and liaison with relevant teams in NUS SPH and internationally.
• Assisting the PI in other day-to-day tasks as required.

Requirements:
• At least a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject area.
• Excellent academic writing and communication skills in English.
• Experience of successfully managing multiple tasks concurrently.
