Role Overview

AsiaOne is looking for candidates with at least 5 years of practical newsroom experience, preferably with editing experience to co-lead AsiaOne's News vertical as a News Editor/Assistant Lead. This is a leadership level role and you will be reporting to the News Lead, with oversight from Head, Editorial Operations Group.

As a News Editor/Assistant Lead, your job is to lead and advance the News vertical, producing content ideas while supporting the vertical and overall strategy. You will manage and guide a team of junior writers and will be responsible for curating AsiaOne's content lineup, from our various content partners and our original content, packaging them into relevant, accessible and attractive pieces and will be required to work with diverse types of content writing, including newswriting, feature writing, scripting for videos, copywriting and advertorials.

You will also find and report the juiciest talk of the town, from various corners of society, producing content with AsiaOne's Off Centre, On trend DNA. You must be comfortable combing the darkest corners of the internet and scouring the darkest alleys in Singapore, producing content that dominates our users’ watercooler conversations.

The ideal candidate is someone who keeps up with the latest social-media news and trends, and possesses strong writing and editing skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and good interpersonal skills to build a network of contacts.

Eligibility Criteria

• Singapore Citizens
• At least 5 years of practical newsroom experience, preferably with editing experience

Responsibilities

• Plan and produce compelling, unique, bold and quirky content ideas
• Cover general news, interviews and events
• Write reviews, features and commentaries from time to time
• Curate the content slate on the website
• Produce multi-media multi-platform content packages

Requirements

• Strong news sense and able to determine what your audience likes
• Resourceful, creative and able to work independently
• Able to work in a fast-paced digital environment
• Understands analytics
• Social-media savvy and plugged into the latest local and regional news cycle
• Able to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Bonus if you have experience in a digital media setup, social media management and video journalism
• Reads and speaks a second or third language
• Degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field

We seek an excellent content strategist to create branded content across AsiaOne’s website and social media channels. If you are constantly curious, bursting with story ideas, competent in digital publishing and social media, and have experience leading a team, we would like to meet you.

Responsibilities

• Conceive, pitch and produce branded content products on social media for clients in a variety of verticals, including consumer, entertainment, lifestyle, healthcare, automotive and/or technology
• Ensure that all branded content produced by AsiaOne branded content team is in keeping with the values of AsiaOne while meeting the client’s strategic aims
• Actively participate in regular brainstorming sessions and meetings
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to help finesse and fine-tune ideas in order to develop excellent storytelling and various content capabilities
• Join client meetings with sales colleagues to present and pitch editorial findings, content concepts and works in progress, advising clients about AsiaOne’s best practices and values, and how they serve the client’s aims
• Employ newsroom standards and practices, including conducting interviews, identifying sources, sub/copy editing and fact-checking

Requirements

• Preferably a degree in communications, journalism or a related field
• Excellent English writing skills with a distinctive wit and flair
• Able to work under tight deadlines and very occasionally at night, on weekends and Public Holidays
• Preferably at least 5 years of content marketing or branded content experience
• Preferably reporting and/or editing experience in a journalistic role
• Preferably experience in multiple beats and sectors, such as lifestyle, business, technology, automotive and luxury
• Good understanding of publishing, social media and the content marketing landscape
• Avid consumer of media of all types
• Ability to do visual design and video editing is a plus
