Our client is a UK MNC chemical manufacturing company located at the West side of Singapore. They are looking for a R&D Project Chemist with experience in industrial project management and possess strong chemical synthesis knowledge to join the team.

Job scope:

• Contribute to development and deployment of relevant occupational health and safety practices.
• Initiate, design and execute new chemical synthesis programs at laboratory level to produce monomers and/or polymers new to company.
• Creation of thorough, risk assessed technology transfer documentation for new process scale up from laboratory onto pilot plant and/or full-scale plant.
• Take an “orchestration” role in close liaison with all other functions within the company (and potentially at external manufacturing providers) that become involved with the new product and process development activity at any point from ideation to full scale commercial production.
• Comply with the recently created NPD Team Charter, associated values and cascading procedures and ways of working including the following:

➢ Stage and Gate based project management and implementation.

➢ Planning and recommending experimental matrix design, results recording, interpreting and

reporting in compliance with cross-department consistency requirements.

• Analytical method development and testing of raw material, intermediates and finished product in liaison with the QC department and external analysis providers.
• Assist in the maintenance of R&D, production and quality documentation.
• Maintain day to day operation of the R&D lab equipment.

Job requirements:

• BSc/Honours degree in polymer chemistry/synthetic organic chemistry with minimum 5 years of relevant industrial experience.
• Experience of operating analytical equipment including but not limited to GPC, HPLC, GC and interpreting resulting spectra and chromatographs.
• Demonstrable experience in leading projects from ideation to commercialisation, orchestrating contributing human resources, setting and meeting milestone deadlines, managing and reporting to project stakeholders, understanding and meeting regulatory and safety requirements, managing project budgets and obtaining project stakeholder approvals for deviation, when needed for project budgets/timelines.
• Able to logically predict trends and outcomes, design experimental programs to certify or dismiss then systematically interpret experimental conclusions to deploy learnings in further experimental optimisation.
• Experience transferring own laboratory developed processes to an external manufacturing provider and providing project leadership of the transfer and scale up by the third party.
• Experience in and knowledge of acrylate, methacrylate and organosilicons monomer purification, polymerisation reactions and other relevant or adjacent chemical fields.
• Occasional travel related to R&D and training.

Job scope:

• Operate analytical equipment such as GC, GCMS, HPLC, FTIR spectrophotometer for analysis of raw material, in-process sample and finished goods as per test plan.
• Ensure accurate data generation and entry of records into LIMS.
• Verify incoming raw material quality according to the established operation procedures and safety risk assessment.
• Conduct chemical and physical properties analyses in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and offer batch adjustments to the operation team as required during production process.
• Co-ordinate QC release for in-process and finish goods test results. Monitor test parameters to ensure process condition and specification compliance during routine QC release.
• Monitor control charts to identify need for new standards or instrument maintenance.
• Be a valuable resource for the shift operation team, assisting them in prioritizing testing to ensure swift responses to production needs and maintain accurate product quality status.
• Develop standard operating procedures comply to ISO9001:2015. Participate in timely Safety Risk Assessment review of lab operations.
• Conduct calibration and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is functioning correctly; troubleshoot any issues when needed.
• Ensure safe-keeping and tracking movement of laboratory inventories i.e. chemicals reagents, solvents, apparatus, consumables, disposables, spare parts of equipment’s etc.
• Conduct and support laboratory root cause(s) investigation on laboratory equipment failure and result abnormalities. Take initiative to conduct preparation and laboratory analysis on unusual test results to determine the cause of the non-conformance and correct.
• Perform and maintain 5S activities and good housekeeping in lab. Ensure upkeep of lab all time.
• Participate in risk assessments and investigation when needed.
• Engage in site EHSS activities and initiative

Job requirement:

• Min. Diploma or Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Chemical Process Technology, Bioscience or equivalent.
• 3 years’ relevant work experience, preferably with chemical wet laboratory operation experience
• Experience in SAP QM for update QA test data and release.
• Strong experience in using, troubleshooting analytical equipment such as HPLC, GC-MS, FTIR etc.
• Able to perform rotating shift work

Working hours: 12 hours rotating day and overnight shift (4/3/3/4) - allowances provided

JOB SCOPE

• Work in a team to ensure smooth operations of the new analytical lab for the new plant site
• Assist in routine analytical testing for raw material, inprocess and finished products
• Operate analytical equipment such as GC, GCMS, HPLC, FTIR, etc
• Ensure accurate data generation and entry of records into LIMS.
• Monitor product parameters to ensure process condition and specification compliance during routine QA release
• Develop standard operating procedures comply to ISO9001:2015.
• Review and implete lab procedures and assist in setting up of standard operating procedures
• Ensure testing are done in a timely manner by working closely with the production team
• Other adhoc duties as assigned

REQUIREMENT

• Degree in Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering or related field
• Proficient in HPLC & FTIR a must
• 3 years of analytical wet lab testing
