Reporting to Chief Executive Officer, the Assistant Director of Community Engagement focuses on driving DPH’s mission through strategic initiatives in building and nurturing a specific community around DPH, fundraising, event management and sponsorship. The work revolves around creating shared purpose for the specific groups to interact, share ideas, support, contribute and advocate for DPH’s mission. This includes strategies to involve the community in the charity's activities.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Fundraising and Outreach Engagement
- Works closely with the CEO and members of Executive Team to plan and execute a comprehensive strategic outreach engagement and activation plan
- Meets established fundraising and outreach goals, understanding the critical role that supporter participation plays in ensuring the success of DPH
- Develop an overarching strategy that includes appropriate communications, marketing, supporter cultivation, personal contact, effective solicitation, and ongoing relationship
- Directs the major fundraising initiatives, including special events, individual giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants
New Donor/Donor Management
- Initiates and maintains contact with major donors, building meaningful relationships
- Conducts independent research, to identify, recruit and activate prospective supporters
Market Trends and Best Practices
- Stay current with national and other work and research on the areas of non-profit engagement and community activation
Others
- Serves on the executive leadership team (ET)
- Works closely with the Fundraising and Communications & Outreach Committees
- Works closely with Finance, Clinical, Operations and HR to ensures the proper receiving, allocating, recording, acknowledging, and meaningful use of all gifts
- Assists with other duties as assigned by the CEO
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Mass Communications or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, with at least 5 years in senior managerial capacity
- Professional experience working with diverse staff and a history of productive and dynamic team work
- An authentic desire to elevate DPH and to embrace/advance its mission
- Extensive experience in fundraising strategies and event planning, including demonstrated success in securing financial support.
- Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, and superior interpersonal and intuitive skills in connecting with various audiences
- Ability to manage/oversee special events with an eye towards helping supporters to connect at a deeper level
- Ability to provide meaningful, productive engagement opportunities for volunteers assisting with the advancement initiatives
- Skilled problem-solver and critical, strategic thinker who will meet challenges with creative and effective solutions
- Familiarity with regulations as they relate to philanthropic giving and industry accounting and reporting standards
- Ability to work in teams during typical office hours, with occasional evening and weekend work
