RESPONSIBILITIES

• This position is for Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA).
• Research Planning and Implementation
  • Utilise JavaScript coding skills for customizing Qualtrics surveys and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of survey data.
  • Conduct thorough literature reviews on emerging technologies for longitudinal data collection (e.g. new technologies, releases, and patches that will enhance ROSA's work processes and services).
  • Apply strong project management skills to ensure timely planning, execution, and adherence to timelines and milestones for IT-related projects, providing regular updates on project progress.
• Data collection
  • Maintain IT systems, servers and databases based on ROSA's needs
    • Oversee the implementation, deployment, and operation of servers (Windows and Linux), databases, and technology solutions to the Centre's needs.
    • Ensure the security, backup, recoverability, and maintenance of servers, databases, and systems.
    • Execute command line operations on both Windows PowerShell and Bash.
    • Manage and maintain server health, including regular server administration tasks and tech refresh processes.
    • Administer NAS backup processes to safeguard critical data.
  • Implement and adhere to data security measures, including compliance with university policies, MOE & CSA requirements, and guidelines (e.g., Data Protection Officer, PDPA, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the University's IT department to ensure compliance and implement necessary changes to the Centre's IT systems.
• Data analysis and outreach
  • Automate daily reports for survey response rates and daily comments from survey respondents and highlight anomalies in the data collected.
  • Assist the ROSA team in quantitative analysis for research briefs and publications.
  • Prepare EDMs and maintain ROSA's mailing list for outreach efforts.

We will work with multipleuse cases so that we can abstract across them and develop generalized, reusable infrastructure. The Senior Research Officer works to the High Commission’s political and economic section. The position will play a key role in monitoring and analysing Singapore’s domestic political and/or economic developments, including issues in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Working under limited supervision, the Senior Policy and Research Officer will undertake significant research projects and be expected to engage with a wide range of sources. The position is also expected to provide timely and accurate analysis of domestic and regional issues. Research may be presented as written analytical pieces, primary source identification and complex oral briefings to senior staff. As well responding to tasking by the Political and Economic Section, the Senior Policy and Research Officer will be expected to proactively identify issues of interest and concern to better inform the section’s understanding of Singapore and reporting to Canberra.

Interdisciplinary research is necessary to address many of the key issues of our times. Unfortunately, there are significant barriers to interdisciplinary collaboration. These include, among others, differences in publication conventions and norms among disciplines, tenure and academic promotion processes favouring single-discipline research, and perceptions that interdisciplinary research is less rigorous than single-discipline research. While these challenges are likely to resonate with interdisciplinary scholars, there is a need to move beyond an evidence-base that is mostly anecdotal towards a systematic understanding of these practical challenges.

In this project, the Research Fellow will work together with Associate Professor Terry van Gevelt to identify and quantify practical challenges to interdisciplinary research using the field of energy studies as a vehicle. The successful candidate will possess a strong quantitative skillset and a demonstrated ability to problem solve.

• Use web-scraping and textual analysis to generate a novel dataset
• Analyse the dataset using quasi-experimental methods

RESPONSIBILITIES

The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in several activities, including

• Conducting research on social inequality (including gender);
• Design, execution, and coordination of experiments, field studies, and multi-lab projects;
• Publishing in reputable academic journals and practitioner outlets;
• Although no teaching is required, the postdoctoral fellow may assist in teaching and case writing on related topics.
• A proportion of the time can be dedicated to the postdoctoral fellow's own research projects.

• Completed PhD (Candidates who have completed and submitted their dissertation may also be considered) in management (or closely related field such as organizational behavior, human resources management, social psychology, applied economics, etc.);
• Excellent research capability as evidenced by a strong publication record and/or research pipeline.
• Prior research experience in social inequality-related topics (gender, power, status, etc.) is an advantage;
• Experimental design skills are required;
• Competence in advanced quantitative data analysis (SPSS, STATA, R, etc.);
• Interest and, ideally, some experience with crowdsourcing science, i.e. large projects involving numerous experimental manipulations or coordinating the contributions of a number of sub-teams;
• Ability to work both as part of a team and independently;
• Excellent oral and written communication in English;
• Expected to commence in june/july 2024.

• Develop algorithms to learn effective visual representation for nutrition estimation.
• Build large multi-modal model for dietary suggestion generation.
• Produce high-quality publications in conferences or journals.

• Minimum Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or closely related disciplines.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant research experience in computer vision and multimedia systems.
• Experience in working with food computing and large language models are favorable.
• Applicants with research publications in computer vision and multimedia area are preferred.
• Self-motivated and passionate about research.
