The Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Programme aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

The laboratory of Immunotherapy in HBV Infection within the EID Programme is focused on the study of immune response of Hepatitis B and the liver microenvironment. The laboratory is also at the forefront in developing T-cell receptor (TCR) cell therapy against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recently, the laboratory is actively involved in studying the immune responses in SARS-CoV1, SARS-CoV2 and other emerging viral diseases.

A Research Assistant / Laboratory Technician position is available and the successful candidate will be closely involved in the collaboration project work between hospitals/industries and the laboratory. The duties and responsibilities include the following: -

• Perform tasks and support the team in scientific projects.
• Plan and perform assays such as Elispot, cell staining and flow cytometry.
• Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and/or research findings.
• Process and store clinical samples, and keep good inventory of samples required for the projects.

Job Summary

The Laboratory Executive will serve as a central contact for Safety and Operations matter within National Initiative on RNA Biology & Its Applications (NIRBA) labs. Operations Support

The Hwei-Ee Tan lab studies the fundamental biological basis of “gut-feelings”, how bacteria in the gut signals to the host to influence physiology and behaviour. The Hwei-Ee Tan lab studies the fundamental biological basis of “gut-feelings”, how bacteria in the gut signals to the host to influence physiology and behaviour. Using mice as a mammalian model, the lab investigates how diet and microbiome factors modulates host phenotypes (e.g. food reward, anxiety behaviours, etc). Besides supporting curiosity-driven basic research on the gut-brain axis, his lab is also studying the brain-gut axis, to uncover host-microbe interactions. His lab’s work is multidisciplinary, the research scope covers diverse skills from molecular biology to systems neuroscience, physiology and behaviour.
