Behavior, Safety and Well-being Management

• Maintain discipline and enforce rules in a fair and consistent manner.
• Address behavioral issues sensitively and promote good conduct among students and in accordance with the organization's policies.
• Communicate behavioral concerns with parents/guardians and work together to implement solutions.
• Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students at all times.
• Administer basic first aid when necessary and seek appropriate medical attention.
• Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment.

Conflict Resolution

• Mediate conflicts among students and help them develop conflict resolution skills.
• Promote a culture of respect, tolerance, and inclusivity within the student community.

Documentation

• Keep records of student progress, accidents, behavioral incidents and interventions.
• Prepare reports for SCC manager and parents where necessary.

Professional Development

• Stay updated on best practices in student mentoring and support through training and professional development opportunities.
• Stay up-to-date with curriculum changes, teaching methodologies and educational trends to provide the most effective academic support

Communication

• Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents/guardians regarding students' progress and behavior.
• Document and update records of student activities, achievements, and incidents.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute insights to improve the student care program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 5 GCE ‘O’ level including English language, ‘A’ level or Diploma in a relevant discipline.
• Possess training in children’s services or training related to school-age children.
• At least 3-5 years of work experience in student care or related field.
• Passion for supporting children's holistic development, including academic, social, and emotional growth.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents.
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage diverse personalities and situations.
• Knowledge of child development principles, behaviour management techniques, and safety protocols.
• Familiarity with Singapore's student care regulations and guidelines.
• First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).

Location: Clementi or Pasir Ris

Key Role/Job Function:

1. Manage a group of about 20 students

2. Ensure students finish school homework (give spelling drills, prepare them for test/examinations – e.g. students do more practices on assessment books, ensure completed exercises in assessment books are marked, ensure corrections done)

3. Supervise and guide the student with their school work as well as life skills (play, hygiene and meal time)

4. Plan and conduct child appropriate social and recreational activities and holiday programs

5. Ensure the safety, security and well-being of students

6. Address classroom disciplinary issues and teach expected behaviour using positive behaviour support system

7. Prepare/organise and execute/conduct creative learning activities and outings as required

8. Support the holistic development of students in alignment with organisation’s goals

9. Fetch students from a nearby school to the Centre

10. Handle administrative classroom management tasks

11. Maintain regular communication with student’s parents

12. Foster good working relationships with students, parents, team members and volunteers

XCL World Academy is seeking to appoint a Secondary Years EAL Teacher for the Foundational English Program. This is a full-time contract position starting from 1 August 2024.

Preference will be given to teachers who have credentials in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, and with SIOP, WIDA, and TPR experience, as well as teachers with a clear track record of superior teaching in international school settings.

Main Responsibilities

• Teachers should be willing to contribute positively to the collaborative culture of the department and broader SY Team.
• Demonstrates professional ethics, international mindedness, and the school’s mission.
• Adheres cooperatively to XCL policies and regulations, including duties, deadlines, programme requirements.
• Seeks clarification in case of lack of clarity to fully meet all expectations of the role and sets and maintains consistently high standards.
• Contribute to the development of curriculum and assessment documentation.
• Show exemplary attendance to work eg. recognises the importance and provides support for XCL extended school day activities.

Person Specifications

• Undergraduate degree from a recognised university or college.
• Teacher professional certification specific to Applied Linguistics, TESOL and EAL.
• Teaching experience and professional certification specific to applied positions.
• Minimum of two years’ experience as a class teacher, preferably in an international K-12 school.
• Preference will be given to multilingual candidates.
