Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist, under the supervision of the Head of Department (Allied Professionals), is a member of the school’s AP Department. He / She is responsible to provide direct occupational therapy services (assessment, intervention and evaluation) to students with Mild Intellectual Disability, as well as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Occupational Therapist will maintain a caseload as assigned by the Head of Department (AP), carry out therapy and maintain updated records of student’s case files. He / She will participate in case consultations and provide relevant support services to benefit students and their families. The standard of professional practice will be ethical and delivered with due consideration to the relevant legislation and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Identify and assess individual therapy needs of students using standardised assessment tools and school in-house assessment forms.

2. Facilitate development of appropriate and effective tools for identification, assessment, intervention of students.

3. Formulate and implement individual / group therapy programme for students.

4. Involve in the school’s process of Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students under caseload.

5. Provide intervention for students on a one-to-one basis, group, class or special setting based on the needs of the students.

6. Evaluate and document students’ therapy needs and progress regularly, and review the effectiveness of the intervention.

7. Provide consultation and update students’ status to the relevant staff members and caregivers.

8. Work in collaboration with teaching/non-teaching staff and caregivers for the effective enhancement of services.

9. Work with external agencies e.g. hospitals, external therapists for the effective enhancement of services.

10. Develop and review department and related policies in conjunction with the management.

11. Maintain and update students’ case files with relevant documentation records and reports.

12. Conduct relevant in-house training for school staff, parents and caregivers.

13. Conduct initial screening for all new students enrolled into the school.

14. Maintain proper usage of equipment in the Occupational Therapy Room and update the need to replace or purchase therapy equipment / resources on ad-hoc basis.

15. Assist in the development and management of the budget for the Department.

16. Assist in the stock-take and control of inventory of the Department.

17. Attend meetings / training to keep abreast of the latest trends and developments to develop and maintain skills that increase effectiveness.

18. Perform other duties and be involved in committee work as assigned by the school management.

The Senior/ Occupational Therapist develops and provides the rehabitative care and services based on the care model, to residents of the Nursing Home(s). You will work with the residents of the nursing home to achieve optimal independence by improving and restoring their abilities in self-care, daily living, work and leisure. You will also provide functional, physical, cognitive and psychosocial assessments to understand their rehabilitation needs and set realistic goals with them. This may include training of daily activities, home assessment and modification, leisure exploration and work rehabilitation and working with the residents to help them reintegrated back to the community and return to their life roles. Clinical Care 

• Assess, evaluate and identify rehabilitation needs of residents; formulate/develop and implement appropriate individualised occupational therapy programmes to facilitate, restore, improve or maintain their abilities to perform self-care, work, leisure activities and meaningful life roles. 
• Evaluate, monitor and review treatment on a regular basis to document needs and progress of service users and ensure that treatment is appropriate and effective. 

• Our Senior/Speech Language Therapist is directly involved in the provision of therapy services related to speech, language, swallowing/feeding, fluency and voice for the pediatric and/or adult populations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy recognized by Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) Singapore, or have passed the Qualifying Examinations recognized by AHPC.

About Child Protection Specialist Centre (CPSC):

We are dedicated to providing quality home-based services and support to families and children experiencing abuse or severe neglect at home. Referrals are received from the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) Child Protection Services to assist families and children identified as needing non-statutory services and support. Guided by a child-centred, family-focused, and community-based approach, our aim is to empower families to reach their fullest potential and provide ongoing support through life’s changes and challenges.

We invite professionals to apply for the post of Play Therapist in HEART@Fei Yue Child Protection Specialist Centre. You have passion to support the recovery of children and pre-teens who have experienced abuse, neglect and/or family violence. You will work with child protection caseworkers, families and a clinical supervisor within a multi-disciplinary setting to provide play therapy services to these children between 3 to 12 years old.

Responsibilities:

• Provide play therapy for children and pre-teens presenting with behavioural and emotional difficulties due to attachment injury, trauma, losses, adjustment.
• Work with caregivers to equip them with knowledge and skills to support children coping with emotional stress or trauma, to encourage and support them to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children.
• Conduct parent-child sessions to enhance recovery.
• Maintain play therapy rooms and materials.
• Document therapy sessions, progress, reviews and provide regular updates to caseworkers.
• Participate in case conferences, family meetings to support caseworkers and the children/parents.
• Participate in individual and group supervisions, and attend team/department meetings.

Requirements:

• A recognised Play Therapy certification, in addition to a degree in social work, counselling, early childhood care and education, psychology or related field from an accredited institution.
• Registered or eligible for registration with Association of Play Therapy (Singapore) or a recognised professional body.
• Have minimally one year of experience working with vulnerable children and families, including play therapy services.
• Knowledge of children’s developmental needs and trauma is an advantage.
• Experience working in the social service sector.
• Good interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
• Able to work one evening a week or occasional weekends.
• Able to travel to Redhill, Choa Chu Kang and offsite to conduct play therapy.
• Willingness to learn and use different therapy modalities given the wide range of presentations of clients.
• A team player, adaptive, independent and resourceful.
