The Tropical Marine Science Institute, National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Fellow for the research project “Enhancing the ecological resilience of coral reefs in response to climate change stressors” (Eco-Res). The Eco-Res project aims to generate actionable strategies from microbial to ecosystem scales. This job call is specifically for Work Package 1 of the project (Ecological solutions for enhancing coral resilience).

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct short- to long-term controlled environment aquarium experiments to investigate effects of stress on coral physiology
• Carry out and refine coral culture protocols at the St. John’s Island National Marine Laboratory aquaria
• Lead dives to monitor corals and carry out field studies on Singapore’s reefs
• Oversee data collection, data analysis, and preparing research results for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
• Convey outcomes of research to the relevant stakeholders where necessary
• Monitor and ensure smooth execution of project plan
• Assist in various administrative and project management tasks

Requirements

• PhD in Marine Biology/Marine Science or related fields
• Expertise in marine organism culture
• Experience conducting both aquarium experiments and field research
• Experience in working with corals, coral biology and reef restoration is highly advantageous
• Expertise in statistical analyses and software (e.g. R, SPSS, Python)
• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, that are essential for communication of findings in scientific and other media

• Sporadic follow ups in the shipyard during the Construction Phase and visits to vendors' factories might be required for these activities.

• Bachelor's degree of Mechanical or Naval Engineering is required for SPIE.
• CREA is required. Certification as Welding Inspector (SNQC) IS-N2 is a competitive edge.

Job Description

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the French-Singaporean international laboratory (Majulab), are seeking a talented postdoctoral fellow to conduct theoretical and numerical investigations on Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) physics in quantum systems.

The KPZ equation, introduced in 1986 to describe the growth of rough surfaces, has since become a captivating area of research due to its remarkable universality. The project entails studying three quantum platforms where recent studies have shown signatures of KPZ physics: random quantum circuits, Anderson localization, and exciton-polariton condensate, as detailed in [Nahum et al., PRX 2017; Mu et al., PRL 2024; Fontaine et al., Nature 2023]. All three systems are subject to random fluctuations in their many-body degrees of freedom: (i) in the growth of entanglements in quantum circuits, (ii) in the wavefunction fluctuation of an Anderson localized system, and (iii) in the phase of a driven-dissipative condensate.

Despite being completely different, these systems are strikingly connected by KPZ physics. By following upon this unique cross-platform connection, one has the opportunity to discover new properties in each of these systems that could not have been envisaged otherwise. In this position, the fellow's primary focus will be on the latter two platforms and interact closely with another fellow dedicated to the first platform.

Job Requirements

The candidate should possess a solid academic track record and some prior experience in quantum disordered systems, quantum transport, many-body physics, quantum information, quantum fluids, or cold atoms. Proficiency in numerical simulations is essential.

The appointee will join CQT under the supervision of a group of researchers including Profs., Kwek Leong-Chuan, Hui Khoon Ng, Jiangbin Gong, Gabriel Lemarié, Maxime Richard, and Christian Miniatura. The candidate will actively contribute to all aspects of the group's operation, including co-supervising interns and PhD candidates. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate's work experience. Applicants are required to submit a detailed CV. Positions will initially be offered for 12 months with possible extension by another 12 months. The position is available from June 2024 and will remain open until filled. Job Description

The Memory Aging & Cognition Centre (MACC) is a Research Center within the National University Health System funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council that focuses on the study of dementia and cognitive impairment in the elderly. The MACC currently has 4 research themes on biomarker discovery, neuroimaging, clinical assessment and epidemiology.

There is an opportunity for a qualified candidate with interests in Neuroimaging to join the MACC in a Research Fellow role to study the neural basis of cognition and associated vulnerability patterns in neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases. There is access to a 3T MR, MR-PET and retinal imaging.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform academic research on neuroimaging (CT, MRI, PET and retinal) and its association with cognition and other clinical outcomes in MACC observational and clinical trial cohorts.
2. Provide supervision and training to research associates / research assistants / students.
3. Validate neuroimaging biomarkers in Singaporean and global populations.
4. Supervise and perform neuroimaging rating and analyses for observational studies, clinical trials, and collaborative projects.
5. Provide expertise to work with collaborators on the design and analyses of imaging studies.
6. Supervise and perform neuroimaging data entry, data quality, data storage / backup and data sharing services for the MACC and its collaborators.
7. Provide training for MACC staff and users (seminars, workshops, and tutorials) in neuroimaging.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess either:

1. a Basic Medical Degree (MBBS, MD, MD/PhD) and recognized postgraduate qualifications in Neurology or Radiology; OR
2. a PhD degree, which must include appropriate postgraduate training and experience in Neuroimaging.

The candidate must have a good record of research accomplishments in Neuroimaging –preferably but not exclusively in dementia or cognitive impairment.
