Role Purpose
The role will be at the forefront of optimizing detention processes, improving collection, and driving strategic initiatives. The role will involve both day-to-day management and forward-thinking projects. The role will work closely with Logistics and Finance and Market stakeholders to deliver budget detention collection across the Liner South Pacific and work with regional hemisphere managers to open up new markets. The role will act as the detention SME for the business including the detention and demurrage module in Solvermines.
Role Accountabilities
Process Improvement:
- Analyze existing detention workflows and identify bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes (Sales, Markets, BPOs and Systems).
- Implement best practices to reduce detention timeframes.
Detention Collection Optimization:
- Develop strategies to enhance detention fee collection.
- Work closely with finance and billing departments to ensure accurate invoicing.
- Monitor outstanding detention charges and follow up with relevant parties.
Ad Hoc Projects:
- Lead special projects related to detention management.
- Examples include process automation, data-driven decision-making, and cost-saving initiatives. Further examples include rollout of SVM D&D module to the remaining PI Region.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Aid in maintaining records of detention-related activities.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations (FMC) and company approval matrix policies.
Team Leadership and Training:
- Provide guidance to detention staff.
- Train team members on new processes and tools.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning.
Inventory Management:
- Collaborate with warehouse and logistics teams to optimize container utilization.
- Minimize idle time and maximize container movement efficiency by working with Market and Commercial teams.
Crisis Management
- Make every effort to be aware of and understand your role in the event of a crisis.
- Make every effort to attend any relevant training, simulations and or meetings relating to Crisis Management.
- Perform your role as best as possible in a calm and collaborative manner in line with the relevant policy and procedures in the event of a Crisis.
- Provide input and feedback towards the ongoing improvement of the Crisis Management framework and procedure.
Safety
- Take responsibility for the safety of myself and those around me by displaying safety leadership principles (i.e. Safety I’s & Accountability ladder).
- Challenging and stopping unsafe acts and behaviours or unsafe conditions.
- Comply with the Global Safety Standards, Polices and Operating Procedures.
Key Qualifications & Skills (What knowledge will ensure success in the role?)
Qualifications
- Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is highly preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience in detention management, logistics, or related roles within Capacity, Markets or Logistics.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Pheonix - Solverminds and Softship. Other logistics software (e.g., TMS, WMS) for tracking and managing container movements would be beneficial.
- Data analysis skills to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Familiarity with RFID technology and GPS tracking systems.
- Knowledge of import/export regulations and customs procedures.
- Strong communication skills for negotiations and collaboration.
