Job Description
The Centre for Banking & Finance Law (CBFL) at the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, strives to be at the forefront of legal developments in banking and finance. Its mission is to contribute ideas for improving financial systems at the national, regional, and global levels. The Centre aims to foster a vibrant community that generates scholarship, policy recommendations, and intellectual exchanges focused on enhancing the robustness, soundness, and stability of the banking sector, capital markets, and other financial services.
The Centre invites applications from qualified candidates in the field of banking and finance law to undertake research and contribute to its activities. It welcomes research proposals across all areas of banking and finance law, including but not limited to: digitisation, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, ESG, AML, payments, trade finance, credit and security, and financial consumer protection.

DUTIES
- Develop and pursue a research agenda, including undertaking research projects on topics related to banking and/or finance law, with a view to publication in suitable journals, edited volumes, reputable blogs or other appropriate online media.
- Present work-in-progress at CBFL research seminars with a view to refining it for publication.
- Assist in other CBFL research projects and initiatives, as assigned by the CBFL leadership.
- Attend and contribute to CBFL events.
- Residence in Singapore throughout the term of appointment, subject to the standard NUS terms for annual and academic leave.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
The applicant must possess strong organisational skills, self-motivation, diligence, the ability to meet deadlines, and keen attention to detail. Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral, is essential, along with demonstrated ability to independently produce publishable research.
The required academic qualifications are position-dependant:
Research Assistant
An appointment as a Research Assistant may be offered to an applicant who has a Bachelorās degree in law and/or who has recently graduated with an LLB (Hons) with a First-class or good Upper Second-Class Honours (or equivalent) in law.

1. Cover letter

You are not required to express a preference for any specific listed position, as this will be determined based on your qualifications, background, and expertise. Additionally, the letter should include a statement outlining your research plans for the next one to two years.
2. Curriculum Vitae
A curriculum vitae should be submitted, providing comprehensive and detailed information about your academic institutions, honours, awards, complete publication record, and professional experience (both current and previous). Please include dates of employment and job descriptions for all roles.
3. Writing sample
Since the successful applicant is expected to develop their own research to a publishable standard, a writing sample must be included with the application. Ideally, this sample should relate to some aspect of your proposed research. Please submit the sample in Word format only.
4. Letters of Recommendation
The application must be supported by two references from academic referees. Applicants are requested to arrange for their referees to send their references to [email protected] by the closing date.
5. Closing Date
The closing date for the receipt of applications and references is Friday, 10 January 2025. Applications must be submitted at NUS Career portal.
6. Shortlisting and Interview
