Job Description

This job aims to address some critical issues in the development of a multi-dimensional photodetector capable of simultaneously capturing optical information such as polarization, wavelength, and optical angular momentum. The main targets are threefold:

1. Understand in depth about the fundamental properties of light including helicity, chirality, polarization, and optical angular momentum. Investigate how these light properties interact with materials and/or structures with different symmetry properties. Research directions include chiral / nonreciprocal / nonlinear optical processes, integrated photonic devices, etc.

2. Study the symmetry properties of 2D materials as well as metasurfaces and nanostructures. The targeted design of a multi-dimensional photodetector should utilize these symmetry properties to enhance the effectiveness, robustness, and responsivity of photodetection of the various optical information, including but not limited to polarization and optical angular momentum.

3. Find the practical schemes to implement a multidimensional photodetector by integrating 2D materials / Tellurides with nanostructures that can allow effective, robust, and simultaneous photodetection of polarization, optical angular momentum, etc. The practical devices should also possess ultrathin nature, the ability to convert multidimensional light information to electrical signals, and the ability to operate at room temperature. At last, one or two prototypical designs should be experimentally demonstrated.

Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth physical insights and interdisciplinary knowledge of 2D materials, symmetry analysis, metasurfaces etc. Practical experience in the design, fabrication, optical characterization and measurement of optical devices is preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design of subsystem electronics according to top-level requirements, analogue, digital and mixed signal circuit design, simulation, schematics capture and PCB layout.
• Hands-on prototyping of PCBA, circuit debugging/troubleshooting
• Design verification and planning of test criteria, test protocols and documentation of design specifications.
• Anticipate the design risk and implement design risk control measures.
• Assist in development and testing of firmware drivers for various subsystem modules and such as sensors and actuators (e.g., I2C temperature sensor, accelerometer, vacuum pump, solenoid valve, etc.)
• Work in conjunction with firmware development team for firmware optimization and firmware/hardware bug resolution
• Manage verification and validation activities of electronics hardware including the performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance such as EMC and product safety. Implement design changes to resolve failures in a timely manner.
• Actively collaborate with cross functional team members throughout the product lifecycle
• Collaborate/liaise with 3rd party contract manufacturers to oversee the PCBA production, ICT/FCT testing and validation.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor/Master’s degree in electrical/Electronic Engineering
• 3 years of work experience in product development industry.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of analogue and digital circuits, operational amplifiers, MOSFET transistors and precision circuit design. Familiarity with designs involving optoelectronics such as laser diodes, photodiodes is a plus.
• Experience in schematics capture, multilayer PCB layout design using ECAD tools. Altium Designer experience is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with C/C++ programming language is a huge advantage.
• Familiar with standard digital communication interfaces such as SPI/I2C/RS232/RS422/USB etc.
• Exposure to medical device development & ISO 13485 quality management system is a plus.
• Full exposure to product development life cycle from proof of concept to DFM with proper documentation is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills
• Able to work independently with minimum supervision and a strong team player.
