Job Requirements:

Diploma/ Degree from recognised Institutions with GCE ‘O’ level credits in English and Mathematics
Prior experience with Students with Mid Intellectual Disabilities (MID) is preferred
Specific subject knowledge, knowledge in special needs education and behaviour modification, Microsoft office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)

5. Classroom Management

Oversee classroom management to create a supportive and engaging environment for all students.

7. Operational Support

The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people with a range of learning needs. You will be able to demonstrate a working understanding of how these needs impact upon learning and behaviour in the classroom and work with teachers across Pre-school and Primary to ensure the rights of each child are met and supported.

You will work with school leadership, teaching staff and support staff to assist in all aspects of the work to promote a healthy and supportive learning environment. Duties and Responsibilities

A. General Responsibilities:

Supporting, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of colleagues so that they teach inclusive lessons
Planning and preparing lessons in order to deliver the curriculum, ensuring effective breadth and balance
Identifying clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes, with appropriate challenge and high expectations
Organising and managing groups or individual learners, ensuring differentiation of learning needs, reflecting all abilities
Planning and supporting opportunities to develop the social, moral, emotional and cultural aspects of learning
Developing and maintaining a regular system of monitoring, assessment, record-keeping and reporting on the progress and development of learners in the school community.
Ensuring students attain, achieve and make appropriate rates of progress as determined by agreed targets
To participate in staff meetings as required
To communicate and consult with families over all aspects of their child's education academic, social and emotional
If required, to be a mentor to a learner or group of learners and communicate regularly with their families
To support teaching teams with observations or learners identified with additional learning needs

B. Achieving Academic Progress:

To work with the school Leadership Team to monitor and analyse the academic progress of the cohort of students in the provision in your subject area/s in order to secure and sustain effective learning, with particular reference to the proportion of learners who are able to meet age-related learning goals
To identify underachievement in your subject areas with a view to establishing and coordinating improvement strategies
To keep minutes of the Student Progress Meetings, and ensure action points are implemented and tracked

C. Leadership and Management:

To motivate and work with others to create a shared culture and positive climate of inclusive education.
To create and maintain effective partnerships with families to support and improve learners' achievement and personal, social development
To participate in school community information events
To contribute to the management of key school events

D. Administration:

To develop and maintain individual learner records as necessary and ensure that they are kept up to date and relevant
To monitor learner behaviour, progress, attendance and achievement and, in consultation with the Leadership Team, decide on appropriate interventions
To monitor incidents where students require positive handling and ensure appropriate recording and reporting takes place in accordance with school policies
To oversee learner progress on their courses in your subject area/s in order to identify underachievement, with a view to establishing and co-ordinating improvement strategies

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Education or higher from an accredited institution, an education qualification in special needs will be a plus
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of inclusive education
Commitment to working in an educational environment that offers academic rigour and excellence in teaching
An understanding of and experience in working in an IB Primary Years Programme is desirable
Sound knowledge of curriculum
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Sensitivity toward cultural diversities

Collaborate with curriculum leaders across the K-12 curriculum to ensure that students across all grade levels develop critical research competencies.

Resources

Plan acquisitions and promotion of physical and digital resources, ensuring alignment with curriculum needs and student interests.
Audit and develop the primary school library collections.
With the Head of Libraries, ensure K-12 databases and digital resources meet the evolving needs of the learning community.
Create and maintain online research guides, tutorials, and other digital resources to support literacy, research and inquiry-based learning.

Teaching and Learning

Enhance inquiry-based learning and research skills by regularly meeting with and supporting grade-level or departmental leaders to design and deliver programs that develop students' information literacy, research skills, and digital fluency.
Collaborate with the Head of Digital Literacy to embed the K-12 Information Literacy Curriculum.
Support weekly class visits (read alouds, book talks) so that primary school students can check out books and learn about library resources.
Plan author visits, workshops, book clubs, and other learning events for the primary school.
Offer library orientation programs and readers’ advisory services to staff and students as needed.

Community Building and Networking

Engage with parents through literacy and learning workshops.
Develop relationships with other librarians, both locally and internationally, and participate in professional networks to share ideas and practices.

Library Supervision

Oversee the daily operations of the primary library, ensuring a welcoming, student-centered environment. Offer support and guidance as needed to TAs on duty.
Monitor library usage and work with the library team to maintain an appropriate tone and culture of use.

Professional Learning

Model continuous professional growth and offer opportunities for library staff to engage in professional development.
Mentor within the Professional Learning Programme (PLP) to support goals focused on research and information literacy.
Support the development of physical and digital resources for staff professional learning, and deliver in-house training where needed.
Support professional book club events like Books and Burritos.

Expectations and Standards

Person Specifications

Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Management, or a related degree and a recognized teaching qualification are essential.
3+ years of library experience.
Proven experience in K-12 digital literacy would be a distinct advantage.
Experience building a reading culture.
High levels of intercultural competence, flexibility, and a collaborative style, with experience working in inclusive and diverse teams.
Excitement and enthusiasm for lifelong learning, design thinking, and providing quality feedback on learning.
Experience with tools such as Google Apps for Education, Follett Destiny, and other learning technologies.
Willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education; and Service.
The College expects a significant weekly contribution to Activities and/or Service.
The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences that are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.
