The GIS Unit spearheads the research, training and applications of GIS in the Department and aims to extend beyond the academic realm to foster an Asia-focused GIS ecosystem with global reach. The Department is the leading centre in Singapore for GIS research and teaching, hosting comprehensive geospatial and other laboratory facilities. It currently runs four GIS educational programmes at undergraduate and graduate levels based upon a diverse range of courses; the MSc in Applied GIS at the graduate level and the GIS Minor at the undergraduate level, and the Graduate Certificate in Applied GIS and Professional Certificate in Applied GIS for Continuing Education and Training. • Assist in annual open houses and other initiatives aimed at student recruitment.

4. Technical and knowledge support in GIS

• Assist students, research staff and faculty in developing and analysing geospatial data for teaching, training and research.
• Support the implementation of advanced analysis and presentation tools from GIS and remote sensing software.
• Support new course development.

Qualification and experience

The following are required:

• At least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject from a reputable institution

Responsibilities

Critical / Strategic Operations

• Assist to plan and drive Critical / Strategic operations at HQ.

Requirements

• Candidates should have 3-5 years of relevant working experience preferably in healthcare sector, with strong operations management leadership including areas in performance monitoring, process improvement, project management and implementation.

Job Description

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications for the position of Research Assistant/Associate. The successful applicant is expected to commence duties at NUS in January 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

This position is connected to a research project titled, “Relocation, Social Networks and Housing Aspirations in Ageing Public Housing”. The research focuses on homeowners’ decision making towards housing relocation. The research team will primarily use ethnographic and interview methods in the research, combining these with a small-scale survey, GPS tracking and GIS visualisations for analyses.

The project team consists of Principal Investigator (PI) Professor Elaine Ho (Department of Geography), Co-PI Associate Professor Vincent Chua (Department of Sociology and Anthropology) and Collaborator A/P Feng Chen-Chieh (Department of Geography).

Scope and responsibilities

The RA will provide administrative support to the Principal Investigator for large grant management and liaise with the project team members or external parties on such matters. There will be opportunities to be involved in empirical research and/or data analyses that are central to the project.

Qualifications

Applicants are expected to hold at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or an equivalent honours degree, or a Master’s degree in the Social Sciences.

Competencies

• Willingness to learn about and work with researchers using mixed methods; prior experience of working with mixed methods will be an advantage
• Excellent writing and strong communication skills in English, including an ability to present research in both academic and non-academic venues
