The Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in the planning, conceptualization, and execution of construction projects. This position involves close collaboration with architects, clients, and various stakeholders to ensure the delivery of functional, safe, and compliant construction solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in engineering principles, proficiency in CAD software, and a commitment to innovation and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the design manager, architects, clients, and stakeholders to understand project requirements and develop initial design concepts and solutions.
• Utilize CAD software to create detailed technical drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with building codes, standards, and regulations.
• Perform structural assessments to assess building requirements, selecting appropriate materials and systems based on load, stress, and deflection evaluations.
• Research and select construction materials considering durability, cost, sustainability, and performance, while minimizing environmental impact.
• Engage in productive collaboration with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the design and construction process, providing technical support and expertise.
• Troubleshoot design challenges, offering practical solutions to ensure smooth project execution and address conflicts between design intent and on-site realities.
• Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure construction meets design specifications and industry standards.
• Optimise design decisions for cost-effectiveness without compromising on quality or safety.
• Maintain accurate documentation of design revisions, calculations, and project correspondence for reference and compliance purposes.

We are seeking an individual with civil/structural/architectural technical experience for the position of Project Engineer at Fortis Construction Pte. Ltd.  The candidate will work directly with the Project Manager and the subcontractors throughout the design and construction phase of the largest multistory data centre in Asia (The Project).

The candidate will be accountable for ensuring the work required, such as submittals, RFI’s, coordination drawings, updating documents, etc, are complete, ready and approved for the CSA subcontractors to perform their scope of work in the strictest of compliance to the contract documents.  This role is focused on managing the CSA subcontractors' field operations and installation details for a large complex data center project, having stringent technical requirements.  

It is expected that the candidate will be a very detail-oriented individual with previous experience working as a CSA project engineer on data centre projects and/or other complex technical projects.  There will be a significant amount of “hands-on” work coordinating approved design documents and ensuring installed work in the field complies with such documents.  The candidate must have robust Emotional Quotient (EQ) skills and be able to relate to and communicate with the client, the Fortis Construction Pte. Ltd. team, and subcontractors of all tiers and vendors and immediately establish trust and confidence in his/her ability.

Responsibilities:

• Represent Fortis Construction Pte. Ltd. in the utmost professional manner while constantly embracing honesty, integrity, and truth
• Comply with Fortis Construction Pte. Ltd. anti-graft, non-bribery requirements
• Work intensively with the Fortis Construction Pte. Ltd. BIM team to coordinate the CSA trade work with other trades
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the contract documents (drawings and specifications), phasing plans, structural systems interrelationships, construction sequencing and project schedule
• Facilitate problem-solving, as may arise, between structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical subcontractors during construction
• Work closely with the CSA Project Manager to lead the subcontractor installation drawing approval process between the subcontractor, Resident Engineer, Resident Technical Officer, Accredited Checker, and the Local Authority having Jurisdiction, and Assist in the receipt and review of all Structural submissions
• Log and post all changes and as-built information on field drawings. Provide this information to the BIM team so it can be incorporated into the final virtual model.
  Ensure all information is current and communicated with the project team.
• Interface with the Fortis Construction Pte. Ltd. Owner Furnished Equipment (OFE) manager for all client-provided equipment
• Liaise with the engineering consultant, supervisory engineers, inspectors and relevant staff
• Implement the Fortis Construction Pte. Ltd. cloud-based QA/QC program for the CSA scope of work
• Ensure that subcontractors adhere to relevant quality documentation/records
• Assist in the testing and commissioning of equipment

Responsibilities

• To be a member of the Engineering Planning team, responsible for planning and executing telecommunication infrastructure (Duct and Manhole) and deploying fibre infrastructure.
• Perform planning and execution of pipe and fibre infrastructure projects, including Common Service Ducts (CSD), Utility Service Ducts (USD), new commercial and housing developments, and Fibre Networks.
• Update network inventory records for cables, pipelines, and orders in accordance with the planned project and on-site completion.
• Effectively oversee and manage projects, taking responsibility for implementing telecommunications underground infrastructure projects within the designated area, ensuring strict adherence to established operational procedures and engineering directives.
• Work closely with utility providers and relevant authorities to coordinate and deconflict service alignments.
• Review plans and proposals to identify potential conflicts and proactively address issues.
• Perform additional duties as delegated by the Supervisor

Requirements

• Possesses a Diploma in Civil Engineering or related disciplines, accompanied by 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Demonstrates a strong understanding of the planning and construction processes involved in telecommunication or underground infrastructure.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
