The Aviation Innovation Research (AIR) Lab

The joint CAAS-Thales innovation lab known as ‘AIR Lab’ started to operate on 1st November 2019 with the objective to develop Proof of Concepts (POCs) or Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) of advanced and open technologies for future Air Traffic Management (ATM). Currently, the joint lab employs a team of 40 Thales engineers and 12 CAAS engineers and air traffic controllers operating in a vibrant ecosystem involving a number of Singaporean SMEs and start-ups, as well as key research institutes.

Thales engineers include 10 domain experts – with more than 10 years of experience – coming from Thales ATM centers of competence in France and Australia. These experts are coaching both the local Thales and CAAS engineers. 

The POCs and MVPs are co-developed with the CAAS engineers who have access to the same development tools and environment used by the Thales Engineers (provided by the Singapore branch of Thales Digital Factory). The POCs and MVPs are defined in collaboration with CAAS air traffic controllers through iterative workshops.

AIR Lab research outcomes will feed the next generation of products, including clearly disruptive outcomes addressing Safety and Security for Open architecture, data driven ATM Twin, Green Aviation, Trajectory Based Operations. 

As the AIR Lab was recently extended for another 3 years, 4 work streams are now embarked: Regional Experimental Platform, FF-ICE/TBO, Green Aviation, Future-proof Interoperable Platform-Agnostic, Safe and Secure Platforms. These work streams are supported by the AIR Lab DataLake platform which provides data transformation and serving services in the cloud.

AIR Lab 2.0 continues to benefit from research conducted in Europe through new architecture research which, among other objectives, aims at meeting much stricter safety standards for ground ATM systems in development by the European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA). This breakthrough architecture study is co-funded by the French government (CASSIOPEA).

Regional Experimental Platform (REP) has been initiated in AIR Lab 1.0 and has the view to addressing regional needs in coordination with the SESAR 3 activities conducted in AMS France.

• Plan, maintain and improve the DataLake cybersecurity posture with regards to data governance and cybersecurity standards by working with other stakeholders (e.g., Data Assessment Office, Cybersecurity Office).
• Plan, maintain and improve the DataLake service levels for reliable data flow, health of infrastructure (i.e., computer and storage).
• Plan, maintain and improve the total-cost of ownership of the DataLake; this activity includes raising efficiencies around FinOps, CloudOps.
• Maintain and improve the architecture transforming data between the DataLake and a distributed search and analytics engine (e.g., ElasticSearch)
• Lead the evolution of the DataLake by conducting the following activities (non-exhaustively) exploring new methods, techniques, algorithms (e.g., data meshes, AI/MLOps infrastructure).

The Senior Data Architect role is part of Enterprise Architecture team in OCBC Group Operations and Technology division, focusing on the transformation the existing data architecture and build of the next generation data platform across OCBC Group to support the bank's Digital Transformation. You will bring a vision to modernize OCBC data architecture and develop a multi-year roadmap to bring that vision to life, collaborating with business and technology leads, application architects, data science and data engineering teams across the bank to enable large scale machine learning and analytics use cases. You will act as a thought leader for the organization, defining data platform processes and best practices - engaging senior stakeholders across the group to ensure their continued buy-in on strategic data initiatives. Responsibilities Define roadmap to transform data architecture focusing on scalability, performance and flexibility throughout the entire data life cycle (ingestion, storage and consumption). Maintain data architecture framework, standards and principles including modeling, metadata, security, master and reference data Define reference architecture as a set of patterns that can leveraged by diverse parts of the direction to create and improve data systems. Lead architectural designs solution context diagram and conceptual data model to optimize security, information leverage and reuse, integration, performance, and availability and ensure solutions developed adhere and aligns to the delivered architecture. Consult and influence digital application teams regarding solutions. Collaborate with other staff to design and implement effective technology solutions, while using innovative business and technology processes to identify and implement improvement initiatives, eliminate redundancies, and maximize the reuse of data. Work closely with Solutioning, Infrastructure and project teams to understand their needs and ensure the best data architecture is implemented. Provide training and share best practices across teams regarding data architecture design and solution implementation including review and quality assurance. Develop and apply industry best practice technology, design and methodology approaches to design bank's data architecture. Research and recommend new emerging technologies, techniques and tools that will add value to the organization Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline. 10+ years of experience designing and building high performance resilient data architectures Strong experience with traditional data technologies (ODS, Data Lake, Data Warehouse). Experience in designing data patterns to support micro-service based application architecture Track record of successfully building container-based big data architectures on top of Kubernetes. Experience in designing systems to efficiently handle real-time and batch use-cases.

The Role Reporting to Head of Data Management Office, you will interact with Data Management Office members and Tokyo Head Office Data Management Department members for driving the development, implementation, standardization and continuous enhancement of the Data Governance operational activities across SMBC APAC, including Data Analytics and Data Utilization. You will work with stakeholders across the bank to drive strategic and effective data utilization and ensure that data is managed in a secure, compliant and ethical manner. Job Responsibilities Set up and build a team in the Data Governance Office to oversee and drive Data Analytics and Data Utilization in the APAC region. Data Utilization Planning and Promotion: Integrate data into business strategies and drive data utilization. Data Culture Promotion: Convey the importance of data within the bank and foster a data governance culture. Training and Education: Develop and conduct training programs on Data Governance and data management. Data Quality Monitoring: Identify and report data quality issues, resolve issues at operational level and promote improvements. Master Data & Metadata Management: Organize and manage master data and metadata to ensure data consistency. Operational Data Management: Work with IT and business units to ensure smooth data flows and proper integration. Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field 7-10 years of experience Data Governance in the banking sector or bank related project experience Good understanding of data-related technologies e.g., Database, ETL, Data Warehousing and metadata etc. Good understanding and experience of data utilization and related tools e.g., BI/MIS Tools, Python, AI Proficiency in both English and Japanese is highly preferred as this role needs to prepare reports in Japanese for reporting to Head Office in Japan. This role also needs to present and communicate with stakeholders and counterparts in Tokyo Head Office who mainly communicate in Japanese.
