Project Scope

The project “Zero-G wells: a 3D tissues growing platform for human tissue regeneration study in microgravity conditions” is aimed at studying the effects of gravitational forces on the regulation of cell and tissue homeostasis. To this end, we will engineer an advanced version of our JeWells platform [1] which allows the growth of thousands of organoids in parallel while maintaining full access for standard and advanced microscopies. The effects of mechanical unloading will be tested on different biological models by subjecting them to conditions of hypo- and hyper-gravity. We will make use of simulation tools (with e.g. a Random Positioning Machine, RPM), and 0-g parabolic flight conditions; these experiences will also give the necessary feedback to prepare our set-up in compliance with the experimental conditions and policies required to apply for access to the International Space Station (ISS).

The Centre for International Law (CIL) was established in 2009 as a university-level research institute at NUS. It is located on the Bukit Timah Campus of NUS, together with the Faculty of Law. Ocean Law & Policy is one of CIL’s core programme areas and was established over 10 years ago. It is co-headed by Emeritus Professor Robert Beckman and Dr. Tara Davenport. We are seeking for this role to start in May 2024.

Primary Responsibility:

To provide students with a stimulating, challenging and enjoyable learning experience both in and beyond the classroom, and to offer them the encouragement they need to thrive at SJI International.

The ability to teach French would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite for this position.

As this is a maternity cover position only applicants normally resident in Singapore will be considered.

Specific Responsibilities:

Teaching and learning

• Identify and adopt the most effective active, creative teaching approaches for SJII students in line with current best practice and the ethos of our school
• Work with other members of the Faculty to apply consistent standards in the following:

curriculum planning and delivery; formative and summative assessment through classwork, homework and formal examination; standardisation and moderation of the examinations process

• Create a stimulating learning environment, including displays of student work
• Teach across the age and ability ranges from Foundation IGCSE (Grades 7 & 8) through to IGCSE (Grades 9 & 10), to the IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11 & 12)
• Identify and take advantage of opportunities to use resources offered within and beyond Singapore to take learning outside the classroom
• Adopt strategies and monitor teaching and learning activities to support individuals with SEN/ESL in line with school and faculty policy
• Ensure compliance with all rules regarding health and safety in the classroom
• Set and mark homework regularly in line with school and faculty policy
• Identify and teach study skills/strategies that will develop students' ability to work independently
• Take part in the process and marking of the Extended Essay component of the IB Diploma

Recording and assessment

• Set clear targets for raising achievement
• Collect and record assessment data (enter on SIMS where required)
• Comply with established systems for identifying, assessing and reviewing student progress
• Develop an understanding of different learning needs and the importance of raising achievement among students
• Attend parent conferences and keep parents informed about their child's progress, both formally through regular assessments and written reports, and informally through effective communication via email and the student diary/planner

Standards and quality assurance

• Support the aims and ethos of SJII as a Catholic, Lasallian school
• Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance
• Attend and participate in open evenings and student performances
• Uphold the school's behaviour code and uniform regulations

Other duties and responsibilities

This is essentially a generic Job Specification for Subject Teachers; all teachers at SJI International are also expected to contribute significantly to the service, sport and activity programmes, to accompany school trips and expeditions and to play a full part in the continued development of a thriving school community. Most teachers are also expected to take on the pastoral role of Form Tutor.

Job Responsibilities:

• Train, coach and assess students (in collaboration with other Instructors, Teachers and APs) in school and on-site to meet industrial standards and requirements of work places incorporating Work-readiness Skills and Work Habits – hard and soft skills.
• Develop training packages (lesson plan, assignments, and presentation slides with resources, assessment plans and trainer guide) for each vocational area based on competency standards of the Skills Future framework.
• Monitor students’ performance using CATs (Continuous Assessment Tools) and SWPs (Standard Work Performance)

Job Requirements:

• Minimum Polytechnic Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of relevant working experience in F&B/ Horticulture/ Hospitality/ Retail Operations, etc..
• Possess good problem solving skills to identify issues and create action plans.
• Able to communicate with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and meeting deadlines and schedules
• Able to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods
• Good People management skills - leading, guiding, and/or coordinating with others
• Experience working with chronic conditions such as Special Needs and/or Mental Illness.

Main Responsibilities:

• Monitoring and forecasting the supply and demand dynamics of the global iron ore and steel markets, as well as the key drivers and risks affecting them. 
• Providing timely and insightful analysis and commentary on the iron ore and steel market developments, trends and outlooks  
• Developing and maintaining quantitative models and databases to support the iron ore and steel market analysis and forecasting. 
• Collaborating with other analysts across different commodities and regions to ensure a consistent and integrated view of the commodity markets. 
• Contributing to the development and improvement of the research products, methodologies, and tools. 

Experience:

• At least 3 years of relevant experience research or trading, preferably in a commodity trading house, consultancy, or financial institution. 
• A strong understanding of the iron ore and steel market fundamentals, drivers, and dynamics, as well as their impact on the dry bulk market. 
• Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy. 
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Other skills (Computer Skills, etc)

• Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and other data analysis tools.
• Skillful in Python. 

Languages:

• English (Fluent)
• Ability to read and write Mandarin would be an added advantage 

Academics:

•  Degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering or related field of study

The candidate will work on developing an intelligent and sustainable Energy Management System (EMS) for Residential Air Conditioning (RAC). The candidate will assist in:
