XCL American Academy is seeking to recruit an experienced Teacher Assistant (Teacher Apprentice) to join our international school community. This is a full-time 2-year contract position commencing from 1 August 2024.

Teacher Apprentice will directly work with students, support the instructional program, and assist teachers in the classrooms.

Main Responsibilities

• Work with students and support teachers daily with the educational program, lead classroom duties such as assisting with homework, organizing folders, sharing various updates with parents, and assisting students during activities and breaks.
• Manage and interact with children in a positive and supportive manner and assist in the execution of instructional plans by supporting children individually or in groups in their classrooms.
• Pick up and drop off students with class teachers for lessons and bring them to the library, cafeteria, bus bay, nurse station, or other facilities.
• Undertake playground supervision and lunch duties according to the schedule.
• Involved in the preparation, organization and execution of school events such as carnivals, special events and festivals celebrated by the school.
• Ensure sufficient basic supplies, e.g., stationery, art, and craft materials are available and easily accessible and maintain the storage of materials in a tidy and organized manner.
• Assist in preparing and creating teaching aids, e.g., games, work cards, flashcards, etc.
• Act as a person in charge of bulletin boards and displays items in respective areas (creating, putting up, removing, etc.).
• Maintain student data and portfolios and update student data in various school systems.
• Manage the daily record of student attendance and dismissals.
• Maintain and build positive relationships with staff, teachers, and students to work effectively and collaboratively in the school.
• Manage any other ad hoc administrative duties assigned, such as filing, photocopying, purchasing of items, payment processing of purchased items, conducting material inventory, assisting with the publishing of student photos, and other administrative duties as assigned by the line manager.

Person Specifications

• Minimum Advanced Certification/Diploma in Early Childhood Courses or relevant courses.
• Preferably 2 years of Teacher Assistant working experience in other international schools.
• Candidates with excellent attendance records will be preferred.
• Certified to work with children aged 18 - 36 months will be preferred.
• Registered with the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) would have an added advantage.
• Preferably Certified in Child First Aid.
• Provides excellent customer service to parents, students, teachers, and school leaders.
• Promotes the school to relevant stakeholders where appropriate.
• Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with various stakeholders (staff, parents, students, and the wider school community).
• This is a 2-year contract position until the end of July 2026. The contract can be renewed based on the employee’s performance and operational needs.
• Due to the nature of the role and remuneration package, this role would not qualify for a work pass.

KidsFirst is an Early Intervention School, Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy clinic for children. What are we looking for?

• Permanent Full-Time Position for a Teacher to support Children with Special Needs.
• Conduct lessons in a specialized small group Early Intervention Program (EIP) setting.
• Create lesson plans and curriculum and track student progress.
• Prepare Individualized Educational Plan goals (IEP) for students, contributing to progress reports.
• Create learning activities, support with classroom supervision and follow-through of learning/behaviour plans, support with children's daily living skills (toileting, dressing and mealtime routines).
• Work in collaboration with a multi-professional team of teachers and therapists.
• Maintain student files, attendance forms, visuals and other tasks.
• To liaise with parents to provide support for skill development.
• Previous experience mentoring junior teachers is valued.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum a Diploma in Early Childhood Education / Special Education or related educational fields. A Bachelor's Degree / Master’s degree in Teaching will be of value.
• Experience teaching with children with special needs
• Experience using standardized tools/assessments will be preferred.
• Must be proficient in communicating and writing professionally, in English.

Job Description

The successful candidates will contribute to research activities related to use of computer vision, machine learning, and analytics to construction safety. The candidate shall work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI to conduct academic research and administrative work. Specific job activities may include:

• Conduct literature review on topics related to the project;
• Design CV, machine learning, and analytics experiments and analyses related to identify hazards and risks;
• Collect and clean data obtained from the collaborators;
• Conduct unsupervised and supervised learning analyses;
• Liaise with collaborators on meetings and data collections;
• Write research papers, reports and proposals;
• And any other tasks required by the principal investigator.

Job Requirements

• A PhD within the fields of computer science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, or related field;
• Strong analytics, computer vision, and/or machine learning background;
• Competent with Python machine learning packages such as Scikit learn, Numpy, Pandas, PyTorch, and TensorFlow;
• Willing to learn, independent, leadership qualities, team player, professional, proactive, communicative, and responsible; and
• Strong English writing and communication skills.

Job Purpose

To cover classes of students for permanent teachers Chinese language teacher/ Chinese homeroom teacher/ Bilingual Programme) when they are absent from school or undertaking professional learning.
