We are looking for an enthusiastic Project Officer to participate in an exciting, interdisciplinary project aiming to understand the responses of monocot crops to abiotic stress and predict stress resilience of the crops under these stresses. The Project Officer will be based in the group of Associate Professor Marek Mutwil (https://www.plant.tools/), at the School of Biological Sciences, NTU.

This project aims to generate gene expression, metabolic and phenotypic atlases for ten of the major monocot crops, including Brachypodium distachyon (model crop for monocot). The candidate will cooperate closely with a research fellow to establish stress experiment protocols for the different monocot crops and then isolate RNA and metabolites from these crops. The RNA will be used to study gene expression changes, while the metabolite extracts will be used to identify and quantify the metabolite levels. Physiological changes will be measured with high throughput phenotyping equipment, which you will help design and buold. Thus, this multidisciplinary project will expose the PO/Tech to multiple topics, such as responses of crops to abiotic stress, gene expression analysis, and specialized metabolism.

Job Description:

• Ensure compliance with government health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Enforce all safety requirements and in-house safety rules
• Achieve zero safety demerit points from Ministry of Manpower and other agencies
• Coordinate WSH programme initiatives
• Identify areas for improvement and monitor implementation progress of recommended measures via site inspections and engagement with different work teams
• Report on WSHE issues to Management including preparation of data and statistics in monthly summary report
• Ensure project’s compliance with all statutory requirements at all times
• Conduct toolbox meeting and ensure the permit to work system in place

Job Requirement:

• Registered WSHO with minimum 5 years of working experience in a construction firm
• Familiar with the safety, health and environmental legislations as well as risk management procedure
• Able to speak mandarin as required to liaise with Chinese speaking clients

Responsibilities:

Building Operations

• Conduct regular building inspections, preventive maintenance of building facilities including electrical, air-conditioning, plumbing and sanitary, fire protection system, AV system and to recommend appropriate rectification action to any fault or damages if needed.
• Setting up and operating of all AV equipment in time for services and events.
• Supervision of repair and improvement works by contractors
• To assist in event management.

Building Works & Maintenance

• attending to complaints/requests and coordinating necessary follow-up actions
• To supervise cleaning, landscaping, pest control, and other service contractors work.
• To carry out minor electrical maintenance (Replacement of light tubes & ballast, wall fan, water heater, switches)
• To carry out minor building repairs (Wall plastering, painting, wall & ceiling, carpark lines and direction arrow, patching of partition, basic cement works)
• To carry out carpentry works (Fabrication of boxes, shelves, trellis, wood panel)
• Perform ironmongery tasks which include replacing locksets for doors and cupboards, installing handles and hinges for windows and doors, and fitting door closers and stoppers.
• To carry out plumbing and sanitation repair works (Replacement of pipes, taps, valves, flushing system, and clearing of choked drainage for all AETOS sites)
• To assist on any shifting works involving office furniture, accommodation and stores.

Administrative

• Record electricity and water meter reading.
• Any other duties assigned by Facilities Manager.

Requirements:

• NITEC in Facility Management or a related discipline.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience in property/facilities management, with additional skills such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical expertise, will be considered an added advantage.
• Occasional weekend work may be required.
• Strong emphasis on teamwork.
