College of Integrative Studies tenure or term-track position (Assistant Professor) for the appointment of a Lead Faculty Fellow at the Prinsep Street Residences.
The College of Integrative Studies (CIS) at Singapore Management University (SMU) invites applications for a full-time Lead Faculty Fellow for SMU's student accommodation, Prinsep Street Residences (PSR). The Fellow will also concurrently be appointed as a faculty member of the College of Integrative Studies and may hold either a tenure track or term-track appointment, commensurate with his or her qualifications.
The Lead Faculty Fellowship is a renewable 4-year administrative appointment. Tasked to cultivate a vibrant intellectual and residential life at PSR, the LFF should be a people-oriented faculty administrator experienced in operating in a dynamic environment and should possess strong leadership and people skills, aptitude for mentoring, and significant experience in similar roles demanding a high level of service and organisational responsibility.
The successful candidate will:
For CIS
- Undertake Undergraduate teaching on the university’s Core Curriculum, especially on the Freshman Big Questions team-taught module; and provide mentoring/advising to CIS students.
- Engage in disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and/or pedagogical research and publications, to an extent commensurate with (or an inverse proportion to) the high service load required of the role
For PSR
- Provide overall leadership on the ground for the PSR admin team and the undergraduate collegiate experience at PSR.
- Manage PSR’s biannual admissions exercise as well as the selection and training of student leaders (Resident Seniors and Block Leaders).
- Reside at PSR and be based in an on-site office and be available to students during the week and on some evenings and some weekends. The successful candidate will be entitled to free accommodation at PSR.
- Oversee, with the support of the Associate Fellows (also faculty) of PSR, the College of Graduate Research Studies Fellow (who also resides at PSR), the admin team and student leaders, in organising residence-based events and activities
- Act as a main point of contact between the administrative staff of the different departments at SMU responsible for the effective functioning of the residence and the PSR student experience (eg: building maintenance, student counselling services, etc).
Applicants should have a PhD degree in hand at the time of application, a track record of excellent teaching and/or experience in active and blended learning pedagogy, and related experience in overseeing residential colleges or similar environments. Candidates with higher degrees in pedagogy, adult learning, cognitive science, or psychology will be given particular attention.
