Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and talented research assistant/associate to work on research focusing on identifying novel therapies for treatment of acute myeloid leukemia in the laboratory of Dr Shruti Bhatt at the NUS (http://pharmacy.nus.edu.sg/tenure-track-faculty/). The candidate will be an integral member of our research team and will work under the direct supervision of Dr Shruti Bhatt (https://pharmacy.nus.edu.sg/team/asst-prof-shruti-bhatt/) to support ongoing studies including identifying clinical response to targeted therapy in leukemia using BH3 profiling. Opportunity to perform high-throughut chemical screens on cell lines and patient-derived tumor cells. We are looking to hire someone who is interested in doing wet lab experiments. The candidate will be trained in the lab however, prior experience will be given first preference.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

a) Research tasks: 90%

• To perform cell-based assay such as apoptosis, cytoxociity, cell proliferation, immunophenotyping, BH3 profiling.
• Processing of human primary leukemia samples to isolate mononuclear cells and process for flow cytometry.
• To harvest cells, protein, RNA or DNA from animal tissues, cell lines or bacteria.
• To perform experiments including PCR, immunoprecipitation and Western blot.

(b) Laboratory safety/ordering: 10%

• To aid in ordering and maintaining lab supplies.
• To create and review standard operating procedures and risk assessments.
• To assemble reagents, chemicals and media that are needed for experiments.

Qualifications

Qualifications / Discipline:

Bachelor of Science required with major in biological sciences or related field (such as pharmacy, biomedical engineering, life science, etc). Strong background in molecular and cellular biology is preferred.

Skills:

The applicant must be a self-starter with the ability to work well within a team environment, and able to work on his/her own with minimal daily supervision. The individual is expected to be able to multi-task and be well organized, both require good time management skills; pay careful attention to experimental details, and have excellent communication skills. English language reading, writing, and speaking skills required.

Experience:

We will consider a Bachelor's or Master’s degree with or without experience. Additional experience in molecular biology, handling of animals, clinical samples or primary tumors, flow cytometry and fluorescent microscopy will be viewed favorably. Background in apoptosis or leukemia biology is a plus. Candidates with prior knowledge of large data-set analysis will also be preferred. The Haematological Malignancy Genomics Laboratory, led by Professor Chng Wee Joo, focuses on using advanced genomics and proteomics methods to study the clinical and biological complexities of haematological malignancies such as multiple myeloma (MM), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and NK/T-cell lymphoma (NKTL). We are seeking a Research Assistant to support ongoing research in murine models. This role involves assisting in studies on mouse models to validate discoveries in haematological malignancies, with a focus on preclinical validation of novel therapeutic targets, therapeutic resistance mechanisms, and biomarker identification. Job Description

• Animal Model Handling:

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Memory Aging & Cognition Centre (MACC) is a Research Center within the National University Health System funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council that focuses on the study of dementia and cognitive impairment in the elderly. The MACC currently has 4 research themes on (i) neurochemistry, molecular pathology and biomarker discovery, (ii) neuroimaging, (iii) clinical assessment and (iv) epidemiology.

Job Description

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking a research fellow (RF) for the various projects on chronic disease. The successful applicant will have a strong foundation in epidemiology and quantitative methods, show good initiative in troubleshooting tasks and have excellent communication skills.

The RF will play an important role in the conduct of current research projects on diabetes epidemiology, care and outcomes. Responsibilities:

• Conduct and coordinate clinical or epidemiologic research under the direction and supervision of the Principal Investigator and Collaborators, including preparing applications for ethical approval, data collection and management, and quality assurance

• Undertake necessary statistical analysis, including advanced modelling techniques, to interrogate the data

The SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute (“SDGHI”) is a platform for global health activities across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (“AMC”). The Institute aims to address current and emerging health challenges across Asia. Working in collaboration with partners, the Institute seeks to tackle prevalent health challenges, strengthen health systems and better insulate countries from pandemics and disease threats.

The Planetary Health Initiative is SDGHI’s newest strategic initiative. Planetary health pertains to the integrated state of health of both people and the planet. It recognizes that people’s health is now greatly shaped by human-driven global environmental change, such as climate change, environmental pollution, rapid urbanisation, biodiversity loss, among others. Addressing these interlocking challenges requires concerted actions within and beyond the health sector, spanning diverse disciplines and nations.

During the Initiative’s inaugural phase, the Institute will focus on launching new educational and capacity-building activities, conducting landscape analysis of the current state of play especially at the regional level, exploring research collaborations with other planetary health-oriented groups within Singapore and beyond, and implementing policy influencing and advocacy activities – all geared towards positioning the Institute as an emerging thought leader in planetary health in Asia and beyond.

The Research Fellow will be part of the Initiative’s inaugural team and will significantly contribute to the early development of the Institute’s planetary health portfolio. Chronic unresolved inflammation is a key pathogenic feature of prevalent inflammatory disorders and related syndromes that together are predicted to affect close to 60 million people with an annual cost of $90B. The Ho lab at Duke-NUS is building a platform to mine the human genome for novel determinants of the inflammatory response.
