A Senior Research Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Assistant Professor Kazuyuki Kasahara at the Novena campus of the LKCMedicine. Gut microbiota influences many areas of human health from immunity to energy metabolism and host physiology. The goal of our research group is to understand how bacterial metabolism, diet-microbe, and microbe-microbe interactions influence cardiometabolic disease using experimental approaches. The RF/SRF will lead a project, recently funded by MOE, that explores the protective mechanisms of butyrate-producing bacteria against atherosclerosis. This research will primarily involve molecular biology and pathophysiology using genetically modified mice.

Responsibilities:

• Carry out an independent research project and collaborate with other researchers.
• Supervise junior members of the lab, including PhD students and undergraduate interns.
• Keep a log of lab material and conduct safety management and data management as necessary.
• Present research at lab meetings and national/international conferences.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

• Carrying out theoretical and numerical studies on orbitally driven transport phenomena: orbital Hall effect, orbital Edelstein effect, orbital-to-spin conversion, current-induced magnetization dynamics, etc.
• Analyzing the above-mentioned phenomena by means of first-principles methods based on the density functional theory and quantum transport formalisms implemented in a home-built post-processing program.
