This role involves coordinating the instrumentation of a 65-meter tower in a pristine peat swamp forest will micrometeorological sensors to monitor water vapor, carbon dioxide and methane exchange at the ecosystem scale. We hypothesize that, given its undisturbed state and the thick peat layer, this peatland functions as a net carbon sink. Validating this hypothesis would provide novel evidence of active carbon removal from pristine peatlands in Southeast Asia.

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in field-based research within a pristine tropical peat swamp forest. The role involves periods spent outdoors, where living and working conditions are basic. The Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN) brings patient and public voices into medical research and education in LKCMedicine. OPEN works with researchers and educators to integrate patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) into their work, connecting them to patients and the community.

OPEN is seeking a motivated Research Fellow / Research Associate to play a key role in the development of PPIE programmes in the School, which will build PPIE capacity in OPEN and the LKCMedicine community.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to design, data collection, analysis and interpretation of quantitative, qualitative and co-design studies
• Project management of program of work, ensuring study deliverables, reports and publications are completed punctually according to study and grant timelines

The Hwei-Ee Tan lab studies the fundamental biological basis of “gut-feelings”, how bacteria in the gut signals to the host to influence physiology and behaviour. Using mice as a mammalian model, the lab investigates how diet and microbiome factors modulates host phenotypes (e.g. food reward, anxiety behaviours, etc). Besides supporting curiosity-driven basic research on the gut-brain axis, his lab is also studying the brain-gut axis, to uncover host-microbe interactions. His lab’s work is multidisciplinary, the research scope covers diverse skills from molecular biology to systems neuroscience, physiology and behaviour. With top-tier research support from National Research Foundation Singapore, Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (NARSAD), etc, his lab at NTU LKCMedicine is actively recruiting talented postdoctoral research fellows, research assistants, and interns, and also open to sponsoring motivated PhD/Masters students.
