Job Purpose:

The psychologist is expected to provide a full range of evidence-based and best practices in psychological services to students including conduct psychological assessments, deliver interventions and manage crisis situations. You are also function as a member of the allied professional team to collaborate with stakeholders, maintain professional and ethical standards, undertake research and continuous improvement and uplift professional practice of psychology in education.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individual and group services to students that emphasize improved educational performance and/ or conduct.
• Screen and evaluate referred students including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observations, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and provide for educational programme recommendations.
• Participate as a member of the inter-disciplinary team and the individualized education (IEP) and individualized transition planning (ITP) committee contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on the implementation of students' ITP.
• Provide collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting basic education staff with suggestions and implementation of remedial programme, pre-referral intervention strategies, and provided recommendations and modifications to assist basic education staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting.
• Consult parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student’s programme and any adaptations/ materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
• Provide direct services through a variety of methods (e.g. classroom presentations, co-teaching in general education settings, in-serices to staff/ parents, etc.) as needed.
• Maintain accurate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information. Re-evaluate, as appropriate, to determine extent of progress and effectiveness of therapy.
• Establish and monitor the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school psychologist services to students/ staff and work cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the IEP.
• Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules and regulations governing special education programmes set by APSN.
• Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/ educational research to enhance therapy services.
• Conduct standardized assessments for students in Tanglin School, and other APSN schools and Centre for Adults, if necessary, which may include intelligence testing and adaptive behavioural functioning, and contribute to the assessment of other development disabilities (e.g. ASD, ADHD).

Job Requirements:

• Possess a Masters in Applied Psychology/ Clinical Psychology from an accredited university and be registered/eligible for registration with SRP or an equivalent professional body.

• Possess a minimum of 2-3 years of work related experience with relevant exposure in the area of intellectual disability or other related disabilities.

Project Overview

We are seeking one or more Postdoctoral Associates, Research Engineers, or Research Scientists in social sciences or related fields to join a project on “Designing human-AI teams.” The project is part of a five-year research program on "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)."

Successful applicants for this position will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge, interdisciplinary projects that aim to dramatically rethink how people and AI systems will work together in the future. To do this, the project seeks to build a strong scientific foundation for how AI can augment (as opposed to replace) humans.

One important goal of the project is to develop a rich taxonomy of activities that can be performed by human-AI teams. Like mapping the plants and animals on an unexplored continent, the work will involve cataloging many (a) activities and (b) possible human-computer processes for performing these activities.

To do this, we will develop knowledge bases that include (1) descriptions of many different types of activities and processes, and (2) classifications of these descriptions into taxonomies that range from very general types of activities to very specific ones.

Then, using these knowledge bases, we will develop AI tools to automatically generate promising ways of combining humans and AI systems to perform different tasks. In the long run, we believe these tools will help rapidly (a) identify use cases for new AI capabilities, (b) specify effective processes and task allocations to humans and computers in a given situation, and (c) identify innovative ways to combine people and AI to solve business and societal problems.

The T6 team is led by distinguished scholars, including Profs. Thomas Malone, Daniela Rus, and Abdullah Almaatouq from MIT; and Profs. Marcelo Ang and Bryan Low from the National University of Singapore; and will be assisted by Prof. Archan Misra from Singapore Management University.

Purpose of the post

The Visiting Senior Research Fellow (RF) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the experiments on time. The RF’s principal role will be to work in general practices such as planning and conducting experiments, data collection, data entry and analysis.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Senior Research Fellow will liaise with the relevant personnel in the Department and Immunology programme to effectively conduct the project and will be accountable to the Principle Investigator (PI). The RF will be able to:

1. Oversee the general management of the project;
2. Provide administrative and secretarial support to the project, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team and collaborate with the study sites;
3. Undertake the day to day running of the project, e.g. Collaborate with team members at the study sites, recruitment, data collection at hospitals/participants’ homes;
4. Conduct literature searches, and analyse data, as well as assist in preparing both progress and final reports of the project;
5. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct in accordance with policies and procedures;
6. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

ABOUT DESCARTES

The DesCartes programme is developing a hybrid AI, combining Learning, Knowledge and Reasoning, which has good properties (need for less resources and data, security, robustness, fairness, respect for privacy, ethics), and demonstrated on industrial applications of the smart city (digital energy, monitoring of structures, air traffic control).

The program brings together 80 permanent researchers (half from France, half from Singapore), with the support of large industrial groups (Thales SG, EDF SG, ESI group, CETIM Matcor, ARIA etc.).

WP3 aims at

supporting the whole Descartes program in order to develop advanced optimization-based solutions in the context of hybrid AI. Any AI system or machine learning algorithm ultimately involves a formulation with an objective or loss function to be minimized. The modelling of the problem as well as the chosen objective function optimization algorithm is crucial to the success of the overall AI task. This is all the more crucial in the context of hybrid AI, which seeks to integrate physics-inspired models with machine learning algorithms. We will address this problem from two complementary angles, namely optimization-based methods and machine learning-based methods.

The Research Fellow (RF) is expected to contribute to the design and engineering of hybrid twin-based simulation and control architectures for urban critical systems using optimization-based techniques. Finally, the RF will contribute to the use cases of Descartes.
