Job Description

The Global Centre for Asian Women’s Health (GloW) aims to build a global research platform for transdisciplinary endeavours to address major health concerns over a woman's lifespan and across generations. Through its main hub in Singapore, the Centre will engage in multi-disciplinary research to promote women’s health, including a series of diet and lifestyle intervention studies.

Purpose of the role

The project coordinator/manager will play a key role in dietary intervention studies by actively managing and coordinating diet and lifestyle intervention studies in GloW. Responsibilities include development, implementation and monitoring of meal plans, educating participants as needed, collecting dietary data, and performing administrative duties to ensure the studies’ success and compliance. The staff will work closely with Principal Investigators of intervention studies, collaborate closely with the research team, food service team, and other relevant stakeholders, as well as undertake other ad-hoc responsibilities assigned by the Centre’s Director as needed.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The staff will hold a few key responsibilities, including

(1) Intervention study coordinator:

• Recruit and interview study participants for the intervention study
• Implement methods for collecting dietary data, including detailed food intake records and compliance monitoring.
• Conduct regular assessments to evaluate participants' nutritional status and document any deviations from prescribed diets.

(2) Nutritional Intervention study monitoring:

• Monitor food/nutrient composition for meals developed for intervention study
• Collaborate with the research team to integrate nutritional components into the study design and ensure alignment with research objectives.
• Liaise and coordinate with the Food Service team, providing diet requirements, and assisting in menu and recipe development and analysis as required

Main Duties and Responsibilities

(3) Participant Education and Counseling:

• Provide individualized nutrition education to study participants
• Communicate complex nutritional information and address participants’ questions and concerns about their prescribed meal plans.
• Foster participant compliance by offering ongoing support and guidance, emphasizing the importance of dietary adherence to the research trial.

(4) Administration and Leadership:

• Provide administrative leadership for the trial, ensuring compliance with regulatory, ethics and governance requirements
• Maintain accurate records related to trial administration, participant interactions, and regulatory documentation

(5) Others:

• Any other ad-hoc duties as allocated by the Centre Director

Qualifications

1. Possess a Master's degree (in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science & Technology or relevant areas)
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Job Description

Chronic unresolved inflammation is a key pathogenic feature of prevalent inflammatory disorders and related syndromes that together are predicted to affect close to 60 million people with an annual cost of $90B. As such, the global anti-inflammatory therapeutic market is in urgent need for new targets for therapeutic intervention.

The Ho lab at Duke-NUS is building a platform to mine the human genome for novel determinants of the inflammatory response. We are seeking an experienced researcher who will participate and drive the execution of this platform in collaboration with other senior members of the team. The selected candidate will be expected to work at the bench as well as manage some aspects of the project such as administration of documentation required for smooth operations. Successful completion of the project will lead to opportunities for transition to industry roles. Malaria continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality associated with an infectious disease, accounting for 249 million malaria cases and 608,000 deaths in 2022 alone. The lab is interested in the understanding of the mechanisms of drug resistance associated with antimicrobials, including antimalarial drugs. The job entails deciphering the mechanisms of resistance to existing and newly identified antimalarials. The candidate will be required to work with human and simian malarial parasites, Plasmodium falciparum, P. cynomolgi and P. knowlesi and performed forward and reverse genetic experiments to better understand the mechanisms of drug resistance.
