RESPONSIBILITIES

Work done will be at the direction of the PI, and where relevant, the Industry Director and Centre Director. As the Programme is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary by nature, you will be expected to convey your domain expertise and edify others (and vice versa) in as productive, constructive, and collaborative a manneras possible.

You may be asked to participate in the development of use cases and delivery of proof-of-concept prototypes for government and industry partners in the areas of computable contracts and "rules as code". Experience in requirements analysis and agile, iterative methodologies will be useful at this stage.The work of the team will be largely determined by these use cases and customers. We will work with multiple use cases so that we can abstract across them and develop generalized, reusable infrastructure. We will work with specific customers so we can build useful applications on top of that infrastructure.You will contribute to the design and development of open-source software written to serve those use cases. You will work as part of a team of research engineers, developers, and domain expertise and you will be expected to actively participate in team meetings and text-based communications. You will be expected to be active members of the applied research community, by validating and contributing to advances incomputational law.

You may be asked to conduct use-inspired research at the direction of the Principal Investigator. This includes

• reading academic papers, standards publications, and related material such as blog posts and presentations;
• coming up to speed in fields which may be new to you, such as computational linguistics, mathematical logic, programming language design, formal verification, and model-based architecture;
• reading (and updating/commenting, relevant) existing software documentation;
• creating presentations, video recordings, walkthroughs, etc. to document and explain research work done;
• writing (and presenting, if so decided by the PI) academic papers and materials for publication; and
• documenting in a sufficiently-detailed manner so as to share what you've learned.

You will be expected to participate in software development; this includes

• learning how to use third party tools, including editors, IDEs, databases, business process modeling software, programming languages, and libraries;
• evaluating competing software systems for suitability;
• building infrastructure to enable application development
• managing yourself, and managing fellow team members;

NTI-NTU Corporate Laboratory is a collaboration between Nanofilm Technologies International Limited (“Nanofilm”, “NTI”), Nanyang Technological University (“NTU”) and supported by Singapore under RIE2025. The Laboratory’s objective is to propel Innovation and Technologies commercialisation through NTU’s innovation and NTI’s deep technology. NTI-NTU Corp Lab aligns with Singapore’s RIE2025 handbook – which emphasises the nation’s commitment to research and innovation, aiming to drive economic growth and address national challenges.

The Nanyang Technological University NTI-NTU Corporate Laboratory is looking for a highly motivated and experienced candidate to join us as Senior Research Fellow (SRF). The SRF will join in a cutting-edge interdisciplinary research project fund through the Industry-Alignment Funding scheme, aiming to developed novel coatings for biomedical implants.

The SRF will be responsible to design, develop, characterize and optimize the formulation of bioactive coatings for biomedical implants, as well as to manage the coordination of research between different stakeholders in order to achieve project KPIs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough literature review and generate periodic updates.
• Design, synthesize, characterize and optimize functional coating for biomedical implants, with particular emphasis on osteogenesis ability.
• Carry out assays and analysis to optimize and control functional performance (e.g. coating thickness, uniformity, assess active agents delivery effectiveness, degradation profile, mechanical strength etc).
• Carry out biochemical and biological assays to assess bioavailability and cytotoxicity of the developed products.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all aspects of the research work.
• Develop and optimize protocols.
• Supervise junior research staff, undergraduate and graduate student projects.
• Manage logistical issues and laboratory inventory.
• Coordinate collaborative work within multidisciplinary team and external collaborators.
• Generate periodic progress report as required by funding agency.
• Disseminate research results in reputable peer-reviewed journals and/or international conference.

Job Requirements:

• PhD in Materials Science/Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or related fields.
• Experience in biomaterial, nanomaterials synthesis, functionalization, and characterization (e.g. TEM, XRD, DLS, FTIR, TGA, ICP, etc).
• Experience working with biopolymers, thin film coatings. Experience with osteogenesis relevant assays and techniques preferred.
• Experience in mammalian cell culture, tissue engineering, implants. Experience with animal work will be a bonus.
• A strong track record of research ability and demonstrated contribution to research (e.g., research publications, grant applications, patents).
• Good communication and writing skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a diverse, international, and inter-disciplinary research environment.
• Ability to take initiative to improve processes and troubleshoot problems.
• Ability to work well with multiple competing priorities, manage projects and meet deadlines.
• A good team player and able to work independently with minimum supervision.
