We are seeking at least one Postdoctoral Associate to join the "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)" interdisciplinary group.

The M3S project is driven by the goal of investigating the nature of work, redefining our relationship with technology, and exploring how institutions can adapt to foster livability, sustainability, innovation, and social welfare.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that aim to develop state-of-the-art AI to create future smart cities. The Postdoctoral Associate is in the T5 project for the five-year M3S program in SMART. The SMART team seeks to advance the frontier of AI research, apply it to society and cities, and demonstrate the concrete social impacts of the AI algorithms with broad public acceptance in Singapore.

Specifically, the SMART-T5 project seeks to develop innovative machine learning algorithms that nudge human activities to maximize the growth of social capital and economy. The project makes intellectual contributions by synergizing classical network theory and deep learning, with applications to urban mobility networks in cities. This synergy leverages the integrated data sets of micro human mobility (e.g. phone trajectory), social network (e.g. Twitter), transportation infrastructure, and macro socioeconomics, thus connecting the micro-behavioral mechanism to macro-economic development.

The SMART-T5 team is led by distinguished scholars, i.e., Professor Alex "Sandy" Pentland, Professor Jinhua Zhao, and Professor Siqi Zheng from MIT, and Professor Simon Chesterman from National University of Singapore.

Project Overview

The Antimicrobial Resistance Interdisciplinary Research Group (AMR IRG) is a unique translational research and entrepreneurship program aimed at solving the growing threat of resistance to antimicrobial drugs. In synch with the National Strategic Plan for Antimicrobial Resistance, the AMR IRG was launched in January 2018 as a research programme funded by the National Research Foundation, under its Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) programme.

AMR IRG is made up of biologists, engineers, and clinicians from MIT and Singapore, at career stages ranging from student to postdoctoral researcher to research scientist, all of whom work closely with a core team of research specialists. The group shares a beautiful state-of-the art research facility and is united by a commitment to providing a supportive intellectual environment where members can learn, grow, and contribute to solving a pressing societal problem.

Optimization of antimicrobial use was is identified as a top priority in combating the rise of antimicrobial resistance. Yet, when one seeks medical care for an infection, clinical tools are lacking to rapidly determine whether the infection is bacterial or viral. Multi-plex nucleic acid tests to detect common pathogenic bacteria and viruses from bodily fluids are commercially available and are trusted by clinicians. However, the cost of these tests and the turnaround times required (longer than an office visit) limit how fequently they are used. A team in AMR IRG is working to develop a multi-plex protein panel and test that can address this gap while retaining performance metrics that are required for clinical adoption. We are seeking a creative, curious, motivated postdoctoral researcher with strong organizational skills to join this effort.

Here at Moleac, we are a company aiming to address the needs of patient’s recovery from a loss of brain functions after a brain injury as well as cognitive deficits. In our small and dynamic Medical Affairs Department, you will play an important role in supporting the clinical studies we undertake and will have abundant opportunities to learn the entire clinical study process. RESPONSIBILITIES

The Role

In this position, you will be working on backend components to support existing technology-based platforms that collect, analyse and act on data related to in-flight employee fatigue. As a member of our team, you will work closely with software engineers, data analysts, project managers and external partners to deploy back-facing software systems for use in existing platforms towards managing employee fatigue. The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

The laboratory of Immunotherapy in HBV Infection within EID is focused on the study of immune response of Hepatitis B and the liver microenvironment.
