Role responsibilities

• To keep abreast of the current state-of-the-art localization algorithms, with specific focus on LiDAR and Visual-Inertial Odometry.
• To study and assist with development variety of algorithms related to localization and mapping e.g., based on EKF and other filtering techniques, and to be able to implement the odometry system for autonomous ground vehicles with high computation efficiency.
• Carrying out tests for different methods and coming up with detailed summary of evaluation and figuring out problems and coming up with ideas to solve problems.
• Software design and development.

Required experience

• Ideally 1+ years of experience in mapping and localisation research domain
• PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, or related fields
• Strong familiarity with localization algorithms, not limited to feature extraction, semantic segmentation, full SLAM techniques
• Strong familiarity with LiDAR, cameras, and GPS-INS
• Hands-on experience with vehicle-based positioning system using LiDAR or camera
• Experience with probabilistic robotics
• Experience with research in robotics or related fields involving sensors
• Experience with C++ in a Linux environment
• Flexible problem-solver

Bonus experience

• Experience with ROS or other similar middleware
• Experience with data structures, object-oriented programming

The Experimental Marine Ecology Laboratory (EMEL) within the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore is seeking to appoint two Research Assistants to work on a major new project “Shore Protection with Integrated Nature-based Solutions—Eco (SPINS-Eco)”. This interdisciplinary research aims to determine the optimal conditions for mangrove, seagrass, coral, and macroalgal establishment and growth within hybrid coastal protection systems in Singapore.

The main responsibilities of the position include:
• Assist in designing and executing protocols to quantify biophysical conditions of both modified and natural tropical coastal habitats
• Carry out intertidal and subtidal biodiversity surveys
• Conduct growth and stress experiments
• Coordinate with sister projects: “SPINS-Hydro” and “SPINS-Meta”
• Prepare research manuscripts, reports, and presentations
• Assist in administrative work to support the project

Qualifications

Applicants should have completed a bachelor’s degree in life sciences, marine biology, ecology, geography, environmental studies, or other similar discipline. We may also consider applicants with degrees in engineering, architecture, or landscape design. The candidates should have strong passion for marine-related research. Research skills including species identification, statistical analysis, writing abilities, as well as the capacity to work within a diverse group of ecologists and marine scientists, are desirable. Candidates with experience in hybrid shorelines, ecological engineering, and related nature-based solutions will be given priority.

• Advise on-site team to discharge their statutory duties under the WSH Act. Assist the team in the identification of workplace safety and health and environmental risks and in recommending and implementation of the necessary control measures.
• Disseminating and implementing updates to the onsite team on the WSH Act, environmental and other legal requirements.
• Conducting and review risk assessments and aspect and impact analysis, the recommendation of safety measures, safe work procedures and environmental matters.
• Maintaining EHS management system documents and ensuring enforcement.
• Monitoring and reporting EHS performance on a regular basis, including timely incident investigations and reporting.
• Assisting Facilities & Ops Manager in rehearsing emergency response plans and procedures.
• Conducting environmental, health and safety audits for site operations and recommending continual improvements.
• Qualifying contractors and suppliers in order to ensure that they comply with company's site environmental, health and safety standards and policies.
• Reviewing and identifying safety competency training for site staff on safe work practices and procedures.
• Organising EHS outreach activities and promotional programmes for ENGIE site staff.
• Any other ad-hoc duties as and when assigned.
