A TYPICAL DAY

My day starts at 8am, although like my colleagues, I often arrive earlier to get set up for the day. I am teaching 4 out of a possible 5, 60 minute lessons today across different year groups. The school really supports me in thinking outside the box to creatively develop new and exciting learning opportunities in different learning environments. As it is the start of the year, I am really working hard to learn all the names, make a connection with every learner and build learning-focused relationships. At lunchtime I have a duty in the cafeteria and talk to the learners about their day. The teaching day finishes at 3.25pm and today I am running an after-school activity with technical lego in the Makerspace as this is a passion of mine! Institute for Pedagogical Innovation, Research & Excellence (InsPIRE) is a collaborative entity within the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a mission to unite various entities and foster a culture of excellence in teaching and learning.

InsPIRE is seeking a Research Fellow to explore the use of Education Technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and social media, for pedagogical innovation.

The incumbent will focus on the surveillance of education technology and AI tools, identifying those that can be used for education purposes, particularly for courses pertaining to these disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The incumbent will work with faculty staff to promote the use of EdTech and AI tools, in teaching and assessment, and to provide support in communications, publications and other administration related to academic matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct surveillance of education technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, identifying those that can be used for education purposes, particularly for courses pertaining to these disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths
• Inform and work with faculty staff to promote the use of education technology and AI tools
• Develop prototype applications of AI in courses that can be easily adapted for courses
• Develop the workflow for the incorporation of new education technology into courses
• Develop testing and assessment processes, incorporating education technology and AI tool
• Provide support in communications, publications and administration related to academic matters, including working with other departments such as the cybersecurity team, legal office in this area

Job Requirements:

• PhD from a recognized university
• Knowledge of education technology, AI-tools, social media and user preferences
• Pedagogical knowledge particularly in design of learning activities, testing and assessment with the use of education technology such as AI-tools, social media
• Prior experience in teaching in tertiary institutions, handling course design work related to disciplines in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths

1. Routine laboratory testing on raw materials or finished products, media preparation and non-routine testing (special projects)

2. Set up and maintain bacteria culture and mammalian cell culture based on available SOP/ protocols.

A Research Fellow position is currently available in the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS).

EOS is a University Research Institute in Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

EOS maintains a regional network of geophysical observation stations in collaboration with neighboring countries in Southeast Asia, that are supported by the EOS Centre for Geohazard Observations, as well as a Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS). Computational resources are available through a dedicated cluster and collaboration with the High-Performance Computing Centre of NTU. In addition, EOS hosts state-of-the-art analytical facilities for petrological and geochemical analysis, and a Community Engagement office that co-creates learning opportunities for a range of audiences to promote a safer and more sustainable future.

The successful candidate will under the supervision of Associate Professor Steve Yim to investigate the interactions between climate and air quality, and the resultant impacts on public health and ecosystem. The team's ongoing research is to develop, advance and utilize the state-of-the-art multi-scale atmospheric models, along with measurement and statistical approaches, to understand the mechanisms that drive the climate-air quality interactions, and evaluate the impacts on human exposure, mosquito abundance and soil acidity.
