The SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute (“SDGHI”) is a platform for global health activities across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (“AMC”). During the Initiative’s inaugural phase, the Institute will focus on launching new educational and capacity-building activities, conducting landscape analysis of the current state of play especially at the regional level, exploring research collaborations with other planetary health-oriented groups within Singapore and beyond, and implementing policy influencing and advocacy activities – all geared towards positioning the Institute as an emerging thought leader in planetary health in Asia and beyond.

The Research Fellow will be part of the Initiative’s inaugural team and will significantly contribute to the early development of the Institute’s planetary health portfolio. Chronic unresolved inflammation is a key pathogenic feature of prevalent inflammatory disorders and related syndromes that together are predicted to affect close to 60 million people with an annual cost of $90B. The Ho lab at Duke-NUS is building a platform to mine the human genome for novel determinants of the inflammatory response. The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor John S. Ascher on environmental modeling of mosquito vectors and stinging wasps and bees and other insects of importance for public and environmental health under the CNRS@CREATE, SPACE project.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

Working with the appointment PI to validate as fit for use an existing specimen and community science dataset of insects of importance for public and environmental health, especially mosquitoes and stinging wasps. This project aims to investigate the performance of cementitious materials and 3D printed concrete against ballistic and blast loadings.
