This project aims to automate the design of origami-based deployable building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) to mitigate the energy consumption of skyscrapers. Buildings worldwide account for a third of energy consumption, BIPV offers a sustainable solution, embedding solar panels into building exteriors. However, the complexity of BIPV installation and a lack of skilled professionals impede their broader adoption. To overcome the challenge in installation, we’re introducing deployable BIPVs and developing a dedicated design tool tailored for origami-based BIPVs on skyscrapers.

The main research tasks for the project include but will not be limited to:

• Origami Pattern Design: To devise a comprehensive tool that facilitates the design of origami-based deployable BIPVs

• Thickness Accommodation: To establish a general thickness accommodation model that converts origami patterns into tangible BIPV prototypes;

• Prototyping and Testing: To fabricate a scaled laboratory prototype of the envisioned BIPVs

• Research & Documentations: document all research findings, tool development stages, and pattern designs for reference and publication

The Division of Allergy & Immunology at the Department of Paediatrics, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS is looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates with a keen interest in clinical translational research in vaccine immunology to join our team as a Research Fellow. We run cohort studies, observational studies and clinical trials in Paediatric Translational Vaccinology to understand the immune correlates of protection, and determinants of adaptive vaccine responses in children.

Appointments will be made on a one-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Fellow will be responsible to, and collaborate with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to conduct various research projects in the field of Paediatric Vaccine Immunology to achieve high quality and impactful deliverables. Specific roles include design and conduct of immunological experiments, data analysis, engagement with external collaborators, and preparation of manuscripts as lead author and conference presentations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Fellow will be expected to conduct original research and contribute to the research activities of the group. The RF will be able to:

1. Independently design and optimize ELISA, flow cytometry and cell culture based immunological experiments
2. Conduct experiments to a high standard of accuracy and precision, and supervise research assistants to do the same
3. Select appropriate subjects for experiments based on clinical questions of interest to the Principal Investigator and research team
4. Perform data cleaning, statistical analysis and data visualization using a variety of statistical methods including bioinformatics platforms such as R and Python
5. Perform literature searches and scientific writing in the form of grants, manuscript, reports, reviews, abstracts, poster and oral presentation
6. Assist with administrative duties such as overseeing and planning of study milestones, budget and deliverables with the program admin lead
7. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
8. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

The ideal candidate would possess expert-level knowledge of electrocatalysis, bioelectrochemistry, or similar chemistries with a publication track record as a first author in leading journals (Impact factor >10 or more). Experience with materials characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, EELS TEM, STEM, XRD, XAS, XPS, FTIR, AFM, STM, and/or Raman would be desirable.
