Job Description

• Pulsed plasma actuators have gained significant traction in the research community for their ability to produce enhanced aerodynamic performance with minimal modifications required to the system geometry. Yet while most studies have focused on flow separation control, less attention has been devoted to skin friction reduction. This project aims to examine and optimize the performance of a novel class of pulsed plasma actuators.
• The selected candidate is expected to conduct experiments to characterize both the aerodynamic performance and plasma properties of these actuators, so as to understand the underlying physical mechanisms leading to any observed drag reduction. Extensive use and development of laser-based techniques should be expected, along with ample potential for use of machine learning approaches.

Qualifications

• PhD in Fluid Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Applied Physics, Plasma Physics, or related field. Experience in laser-based diagnostics and/or machine learning approaches is strongly preferred.

The Research Fellow is expected to play a lead role in the reliability testing and failure analysis of GaN High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMT) integrated on silicon CMOS devices. The Senior Research Fellow will be responsible for developing procedures to measure and price risks arising from climate change suitable for each company so that climate risk can be managed by companies and hedged by investors, and seeing this work through to publication in major research journals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Use computational linguistic tools and machine learning techniques to analyze discussions on climate change in corporate social responsibility reports, conference call transcripts, and the Management Discussion and Analysis section of companies’ annual reports

• Construct a dataset that can produce a climate risk fact sheet containing essential information about various climate risk exposure (e.g., drought, flooding) of a region or a city

• Develop a new multifactor asset pricing model containing a climate risk factor, which investors can use to effectively price in climate change risk and hedge climate risk
