The appointment is on a 2-year contract base in the first instance with a possibility of extension. [What the role is]

The Centre for Climate Research Singapore (CCRS) is a division of the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS). At CCRS, our mission is to advance scientific understanding of tropical climate variability and change and its associated weather systems affecting Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia region, so that the knowledge and expertise can benefit decision makers and the community. Within CCRS, the Department for Weather Research (DWR) is responsible for the research and, development of core seamless modelling systems for both weather and climate applications in Singapore and Southeast Asian region, and transition to operations of local numerical weather prediction (NWP), marine and haze/air quality forecasting with lead times up to a week ahead. The DWR works closely with CCRS’s Department of Climate Research (DCR) and High Performance Computing (HPC) Branch, MSS forecasters, local universities, and a number of international organisations including the UK Met Office, Australian Bureau of Meteorology, and US National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). Since 2021, CCRS has been a core member of the international Unified Model (UM) partnership.

The Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Branch sits within DWR. The NWP branch is responsible for developing and improving nowcasting and local (km-scale and below) NWP systems, and translating the outputs into customised products for supporting MSS weather services and other stakeholders. The branch also works closely with local agencies, institutes of higher learning and UM partners to share research outcomes and deliver improved forecast products for the region.

Data assimilation (DA) is a form of data science that combines observations and model output to provide an analysis of the state of a system at a particular time. Within the NWP Branch of CCRS, DA is a key R&D area used to initialise NWP forecasts through the assimilation of a wide range of space- and ground-based observations.

To do this, we will develop knowledge bases that include (1) descriptions of many different types of activities and processes, and (2) classifications of these descriptions into taxonomies that range from very general types of activities to very specific ones.

Then, using these knowledge bases, we will develop AI tools to automatically generate promising ways of combining humans and AI systems to perform different tasks. In the long run, we believe these tools will help rapidly (a) identify use cases for new AI capabilities, (b) specify effective processes and task allocations to humans and computers in a given situation, and (c) identify innovative ways to combine people and AI to solve business and societal problems.

The T6 team is led by distinguished scholars, including Profs. Thomas Malone, Daniela Rus, and Abdullah Almaatouq from MIT; and Profs. Marcelo Ang and Bryan Low from the National University of Singapore; and will be assisted by Prof. Archan Misra from Singapore Management University.

Job Description

Successful candidates for this job will participate in one or more activities like the following:

• Developing descriptions of current or potential activities and processes based on techniques such as: interviews, surveys, field studies, ethnographic observations, and literature reviews.
• Making editorial decisions about what content to include in the knowledge base, how to present it clearly, and how to organize it in ways that are logical, comprehensive, widely understandable, intuitively appealing, and conceptually elegant.

Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKC Medicine), a joint medical school between Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow to join Dr. Xiuyi Fan's laboratory. Our lab focuses on the development of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) techniques and their applications to gain new insights in the field of medicine.

We have various projects related to XAI that the Research Fellow will explore, including temporal/time-series and counterfactual explanations, as well as uncertainty quantification and comparisons of XAI techniques. The successful candidate should have experience working at the intersection of XAI and Medicine. Additionally, the candidate should be familiar with large-scale Electronic Health Records and the development of new XAI techniques.

The Research Fellow will lead projects under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Xiuyi Fan. Responsibilities will include data preprocessing, data analysis, the development of new XAI techniques, application of existing XAI techniques, and manuscript writing. Purpose of the post

The Visiting Senior Research Fellow (RF) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the experiments on time. The RF’s principal role will be to work in general practices such as planning and conducting experiments, data collection, data entry and analysis.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Senior Research Fellow will liaise with the relevant personnel in the Department and Immunology programme to effectively conduct the project and will be accountable to the Principle Investigator (PI). The RF will be able to:

1. Oversee the general management of the project;
2. Provide administrative and secretarial support to the project, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team and collaborate with the study sites;
3. Undertake the day to day running of the project, e.g. Collaborate with team members at the study sites, recruitment, data collection at hospitals/participants’ homes;
4. Conduct literature searches, and analyse data, as well as assist in preparing both progress and final reports of the project;
5. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct in accordance with policies and procedures;
6. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

1. have a Ph.D. degree with good results in the field of biomedicine with prior experience in research being essential; and
