The successful candidate will lead projects that focus on obtaining a detailed molecular mechanistic understanding of microbial biofilm development, and microbe-microbe interactions, in settings relevant to food spoilage and the food chain. The selected candidate will work independently, with other team members, and with collaborators to perform both in vivo and in vitro experiments to address specific scientific questions related to biofilm development/community interactions in these settings.

Key Responsibilities:

• To plan, perform and document laboratory experiments to study biofilm development and community interactions.
• Work closely with the Principal Investigator to analyse and interpret data, troubleshoot experiments and write manuscripts on research outputs.

Senior Testing Engineer

As part of IME’s Photonics & Sensors Department, the candidate will take lead for the development of various testing capability for advanced photonics, including but not limited to chip-level and wafer-level testing of optical devices and electro-optical devices. We are looking for a motivated bioinformatics specialist who is keen on studying how microbes contribute to common skin diseases such as eczema and acne. Our lab is focused on leveraging new technologies to better study microbial populations and their impact on human health. We have extensive experience in metagenomic analysis in clinically or commercially important contexts such as uncovering distinct microbial communities in households affected by paediatric eczema (PMID: 35318044) and revealing the microbial basis of body odour in teenagers (PMID: 30497517). We are now focusing on applying various -omics capabilities to larger sized disease cohorts to understand how microbial pathways and biomarkers change with disease progression and treatment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment, with unique access to next-generation sequencing technologies and a wide range of samples.
