The Senior Research Officer works to the High Commission’s political and economic section. The position will play a key role in monitoring and analysing Singapore’s domestic political and/or economic developments, including issues in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Working under limited supervision, the Senior Policy and Research Officer will undertake significant research projects and be expected to engage with a wide range of sources. The position is also expected to provide timely and accurate analysis of domestic and regional issues. Research may be presented as written analytical pieces, primary source identification and complex oral briefings to senior staff. RESPONSIBILITIES

Interdisciplinary research is necessary to address many of the key issues of our times. Unfortunately, there are significant barriers to interdisciplinary collaboration. These include, among others, differences in publication conventions and norms among disciplines, tenure and academic promotion processes favouring single-discipline research, and perceptions that interdisciplinary research is less rigorous than single-discipline research. While these challenges are likely to resonate with interdisciplinary scholars, there is a need to move beyond an evidence-base that is mostly anecdotal towards a systematic understanding of these practical challenges.

In this project, the Research Fellow will work together with Associate Professor Terry van Gevelt to identify and quantify practical challenges to interdisciplinary research using the field of energy studies as a vehicle. The successful candidate will possess a strong quantitative skillset and a demonstrated ability to problem solve.

Specifically, the Research Fellow will:

• Use web-scraping and textual analysis to generate a novel dataset
• Analyse the dataset using quasi-experimental methods
• Assist in the design and calibration of a choice experiment; and
• Make a significant contribution to the drafting of two research articles for submission to high-impact journals.
