Job Description:
The Laboratory Officer will be responsible for the efficient operation of the vapor deposition lab, focusing on both physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques. This role requires a strong technical background in thin film deposition processes, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with research teams. The Laboratory Officer will work closely with the research engineers and scientists to oversee lab operations and provide support to ongoing projects. Key responsibilities include:
Lab Management:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the vapor deposition lab, including equipment maintenance, process optimization, and safety protocols.
- Ensure that the lab is well-equipped and stocked with necessary materials and consumables for PVD/CVD processes.
- Coordinate with vendors for procurement of deposition materials, gases, and other supplies as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with laboratory standards and regulations.
Process Optimization:
- Develop and optimize deposition processes for thin film fabrication using PVD and CVD techniques.
- Conduct experiments to characterize film properties, optimize deposition parameters, and troubleshoot process issues.
- Collaborate with researchers and project teams to identify and implement improvements in deposition quality, yield, and efficiency.
Experimental Support:
- Provide technical support to researchers and project teams for experimental setup, process monitoring, and data analysis.
- Assist with the design and fabrication of thin film devices and structures for research applications.
- Perform routine calibration and maintenance of deposition equipment to ensure reliable and reproducible results.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and observations in detailed lab reports.
Project Support:
- Collaborate with project teams to support the execution of research projects requiring thin film deposition capabilities.
- Manage project timelines and deliverables to ensure that milestones are met in accordance with project objectives.
- Communicate regularly with project stakeholders to provide updates on progress and address any technical challenges or concerns.
Training and Development:
- Provide training and guidance to new lab members on proper laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
- Stay informed about advancements in thin film deposition technology through literature review and professional development activities.
- Share knowledge and best practices with other members of the research team to enhance overall productivity and effectiveness.
Requirement:
- Diploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering/Materials Science and Engineering/Mechanical engineering, or a related science and engineering field.
- Proven experience working in a laboratory setting, with a focus on thin film deposition techniques such as PVD and CVD.
- Strong understanding of deposition processes, including vacuum systems, gas flow control, and substrate preparation.
- Preferred to have good hands-on experience with system maintenance.
- Ability to work effectively independently.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting deposition equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment, with knowledge of relevant safety regulations and procedures.
