Asst. Prof. Chan seeks a highly motivated individual to join his laboratory on Mammalian Development and Tissue Hydraulics as a postdoctoral fellow at the Mechanobiology Institute in the National University of Singapore. This position is offered under a highly interdisciplinary project that aims to understand macrophage-environment mechanochemical crosstalk during ovarian ageing.

Project Scope

The candidate will investigate the mechanobiological principles by which cell mechanics, ECM remodelling and inflammation drive fibrosis during ovarian ageing. The selected candidate will combine an ex vivo approach with advanced imaging, omics and biophysics to explore how tissue-resident macrophages respond to age-associated changes in matrix stiffness and composition, and how this in turn drives macrophage-mediated fibrosis. Job Requirements

• PhD degree in chemistry, materials science and engineering, electric and computer engineering, or chemical engineering.
• Ample research experience in polymer synthesis (particularly ATRP, RAFT and ROMP), nanomaterials synthesis, and self-assembly of polymers and nanomaterials into hierarchical structures
• Solid background/experience in materials for self-assembly and catalysis.

• Strong publication record
• Prior undergraduate and master students mentoring experience

Job Responsibilities:

• Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to design and execute research testing how humans evaluate large language model (LLM) features.
• Conduct research with humans to validate and create automated benchmarks for LLM evaluations.

Requirements:

• PhD or advanced Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Economics, or similar discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in large language model research.
• Fluent in at least one statistical programming language such as Python or R.
• Strong understanding of machine learning principles, especially in the context of LLMs.
• Knowledgeable about LLM evaluation techniques, such as human evaluation and automated benchmarks.
• Able to own and pursue a research agenda, including choosing impactful research problems and autonomously carrying out projects.

Responsibilities

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) is a University Research Institute at NTU with a mission to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

EOS invites applications for a Research Fellow in palynology (pollen) and sedimentology research relating to tropical mangrove environments in Singapore. The position will involve the use of sedimentary cores to reconstruct the geomorphic evolution of mangrove systems and investigate mangrove survival thresholds and ecological tipping points relating to past sea-level change. The position is a key component of the Marine Climate Chance Science (MCCS) Programme aimed at assessing the long-term viability of mangroves as nature-based climate solutions in Singapore. The candidate will work under the supervision of Assistant Professor Kyle Morgan and Research Assistant Professor Stephen Chua, as well as a team of leading international scientists to understand the response of Singapore’s coastal and marine ecosystems to anthropogenic and climate change impacts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct pollen grain counts with accurate identification of species (including statistical methods related to pollen analysis)
• Manage, guide and train student interns/PhD students/Research staff in pollen preparation and analysis
• Maintenance of documentation, including inhouse data repository, and GitHub repository, if applicable
• Publish the scientific outcomes of this research in high quality, peer-reviewed, international scientific journals
• Perform other relevant research tasks assigned by the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator
• Develop and conduct laboratory protocols for core-based sediment and microfossil sample preparation (e.g., pollen slides) and analysis
• Manage and procure lab resources/equipment/chemicals relating to sediment and pollen analysis
• Prepare sediment and microfossil samples for age dating (i.e., 14C, 210Pb, 137Cs)
• Coordinate between multiple research partners involved in the project and explore additional research directions

Job Requirements:

• PhD in environmental science, earth science or related topics
• Strong competence and experience in pollen preparation, identification and data analysis
• Established in the field with a good record of publications
• Excellent English written and communication skills
• Independence in research direction and team spirit
• Team player and willingness to collaborate
• Able to mentor undergraduate and PhD students
• Self-driven and able to work independently

Job Duties

• Provides administrative support for the review boards’ meetings.
• Performs administrative and simple preliminary reviews of study amendments, continuing reviews, non-compliances, UPIRTSO, and other notifications in a timely manner to ensure completeness of submission and correctness of information.
• Performs data extraction, collation of information, prepare reports and presentation slides using data, when required.
• Serves as a resource for investigators regarding the adaptation and implementation of DSRB policies, procedures and forms.
• Assists in drafting WIs to ensure clarity and consistency in work processes, as required.
• Assists in organizing research ethics seminars and training sessions.
• Be involved in cross coverage plans for other Assistant IRB Analysts.

Job Requirements

• “A” Level /Diploma of any discipline or equivalent.
• Preferably with at least 1 year of experience in a Healthcare/Clinical Research Industry or in supporting the IRB/DSRB operations in key administrative functions preferred but not mandatory.
• Proficient in MS Office applications.
• Able to work independently and meticulously as well as a team player.
• Possess strong organisation and planning skills and demonstrate strong written and verbal capabilities.
• Able to handle extremely detailed and highly confidential information with tact and discretion.
