The services required are set out as follows:

• Assist during lessons in the science lab
• Assist teachers switch Science events/activities.
• Prepare apparatus and materials for internal Science practical assessments.
• Set up, clear and clean science lab as required by HOD/Science.
• Track and record the usage of science apparatus of set-ups.
• Take stock of science lab consumables and equipment and provide proper labeling.
• Report obsolete/damaged goods in the science lab for replacement.
• Label all the cupboards in the science lab with the contents.
• Sprucing up of Science labs with print-rich materials eg. displays, posters and concept cartoons.
• Perform routine servicing and maintenance of equipment.
• Any other duties as and when assigned by HOD/Science

The personnel shall minimally have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

1. Familiar with computer skills.
2. Basic knowledge of classroom procedures (facilitating science experiments and group work)
3. A pleasant, caring, patient and nurturing disposition, as the candidate is expected to render assistance/first aid to students in a girls’ school.
4. School experience and enjoy dealing with young children.
5. Advantageous if the candidate has qualifications relating to Science.
6. Experience in working in a school science lab and possess basic first aid certificate.
7. Comfortable interacting with people of all levels and multi-tasking.

General Responsibilities:

• Assist educators in preparation of learning materials for lessons and other related activities. If needed, assist in procurement of materials.
• Organise and oversee inventories, ensuring items / equipment are well replenished
• Maintain cleanliness of assigned labs.
• Assist in science-related activities, eg. experiments, recycling programmes, CCAs, enrichment classes etc.
• Assist in any other duties as assigned.
• General administrative duties in the general office, such as manning the counter, filling and distribution of materials.

Requirements:

• Pleasant personality with good knowledge on Science apparatus and equipment.
• Possess good communication and writing skill.

This advertisement is for recruiting for the position of Science Laboratory Assistant.

If successfully selected, you will be seconded to MOE primary school located in Towner.

Contract Period: From 01 Jan 2025 to 15 Nov 2025

Personnel to be deployed at the following hours during School Terms :

• Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: 8:00am to 1:30pm inclusive of 0.5 hr break (5 hours per day, 3 days/15 hours a week)
• 15 hours work-week may be deployed flexibly, but still limited to the 3 working days per week.
• Deployment hours is capped at 15 hours weekly.
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays, gazetted public holidays and School Holidays (including March, June and September breaks) / Events / Activities

The Personnel shall be competent to perform the following:

Main duties to include but not limited to:

• Maintain a safe, clean and tidy laboratory environment.
• Ensure that all apparatus and equipment are safe and clean for use.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, apparatus, materials and specimens in good working condition.
• Report all faulty machines and equipment immediately, and display an “Out of Order” sign prominently on the machines/equipment.
• Ensure that all glass apparatus or breakages are disposed of appropriately.
• Ensure that Bunsen burners and high risk items (data loggers and microscopes) are properly kept and under lock and key.
• Inspect Bunsen burners to ensure they are in good condition.
• Keep a stock book and breakage record to indicate necessary replacement.
• Check and replenish first aid supplies.
• Aid Science teachers in preparing resources for laboratory lessons.
• Aid Science teachers during laboratory lessons, when required.
• Aid Science teachers with the clearing up after laboratory lessons, when required.
• Any other work assigned by the Science HOD.

The personnel shall minimally have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

• Has experience working at Science Labs in Primary Schools.
• Can speak, write and understand English

The Personnel should preferably be able to use phone message apps and emails.

The Personnel should preferably have performed the duties as prescribed in the section under “Scope of Services.”

Work Hours:

• Monday to Friday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (inclusive of 30-minute lunch break)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Laboratory Cleaning and Maintenance:Sweep and mop laboratory and preparation room floors after use.
   Empty trash bins daily from sink areas and floors.
   Clean laboratory benches and sinks after practical lessons.
   Refill hand soap, disinfectants, and paper towels regularly.
   Empty broken glassware containers when full.
   
2. Cleaning of Laboratory Equipment:Clean and wash laboratory glassware (beakers, measuring cylinders, plastic bottles, vials) under the laboratory technician’s guidance.
   
3. Support in Laboratory Preparation:Assist the laboratory technician with the setup and replication of experimental setups.
   Weigh chemicals, prepare solutions, and arrange science-related equipment or materials.
   Replenish and distribute laboratory equipment and chemicals to students during practical lessons.
   

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

• Minimum Experience: At least 1 year of working experience supporting school operations, preferably in a science laboratory.
• Preferred Experience: Prior experience in cleaning and supporting science laboratory operations is highly desirable.
• Skills: Ability to follow instructions, work under supervision, and handle laboratory equipment safely.
