Responsible:
- Ensure the proper functioning of electrical systems on ships, including generators, motors, switchboards, and electrical distribution panels, by performing routine maintenance tasks.
- Quickly identify and diagnose electrical faults or malfunctions in onboard systems, including propulsion systems, power generation, and safety equipment, ensuring minimal downtime for the vessel.
- Oversee the installation of new electrical equipment and systems on vessels, ensuring compliance with marine safety standards and company protocols.
- Perform emergency and scheduled repairs to electrical systems, ensuring that all repairs meet industry safety and performance standards.
- Ensure that all electrical work adheres to safety standards, maritime regulations, and environmental laws. This includes ensuring compliance with SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships) regulations.
- Monitor the operation of power generation equipment such as diesel generators and alternators to ensure they are running efficiently and meet the vessel’s power demands.
- Maintain and troubleshoot electronic control systems used in various marine applications, including engine control, ballast control, and navigation equipment.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems, ensuring the longevity and reliability of the equipment. This involves regular inspections, testing, and servicing.
- Provide guidance and training to junior engineers and vessel crew on the proper use, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems.
- Keep detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and upgrades performed on electrical systems. Ensure that all electrical work is documented in compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Min Diploma or equivilant; technical certification or associate degree in Marine Mechanics or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Marine service and repair.
- Strong mechanical attitude and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and marine service equipment.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
